Car Dealers Need to Ensure That Flat Batteries Don-t Lose Sales

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 01/20/12 — In today-s economic climate, consumers are becoming increasingly more financially savvy and cautious about where they spend their hard earned money. As a result, car dealers need to capitalise on every possible sales opportunity, and ensuring that the battery is fully charged, in a healthy condition and able to start the engine first time should be part of a daily maintenance routine, says CTEK, a leading global brand in , care and maintenance.

When not in use, batteries naturally start to self-discharge and unless this is rectified with a charge ideally from a , will continue to do so until they are in a state of disrepair and need to be replaced.

Jan-ulf Soderberg, Head of Brand and Marketing at CTEK, commented: “The self-discharge rate of a lead-acid battery differs depending on its type. A Flooded battery for example can lose between 8 and 40 per cent of its capacity every month, where with Gel and AGM this can be reduced to somewhere between 2 and 10 per cent.

“For car dealers, self-discharged batteries can seriously harm the chances of making a sale as well as the reputation of the garage. If a car doesn-t turn-over in front of a perspective buyer then the chances of making that sale are reduced considerably. It gives the impression that the car hasn-t been looked after adequately – if there-s something wrong with the battery, what else hasn-t received proper care and attention?”

Self-discharge and flat batteries needn-t be a problem, however. For a garage, a CTEK can be attached to a battery quickly, easily and safely and then left attached for as long as necessary without running the risk over under or over charging.

Furthermore, so garages don-t have to buy multiple chargers, CTEK also manufacturers a range of accessories that give an immediate indication to the state of the battery and whether it needs a charge. CTEK-s Comfort Indicator can be attached to the battery permanently through eyelets or temporarily via crocodile clips. Once attached a red light will glow if the battery is in server need of a charge, amber if it will need a charge imminently, or green if the battery if in a healthy state. This immediacy means that the charging process can be rotated to those that need it most.
