The FinTech Hackathon: Bringing Together the FinTech Community

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwire) — 01/29/13 — The FinTech Hackathon today announced that it is hosting its first Hackathon for the global FinTech community. The Hackathon will promote the development of financial technology for institutional customers as well as retail consumers. The first event will be taking place in New York City from April 6-7, 2013 and is supported by several firms including , , , , , , , , , and.

The Hackathon brings together FinTech developers and designers to develop financial products and discover new technologies. Example applications include innovations in risk management, trading, big data, retail banking, regulatory compliance, mobile payments and enterprise social.

“Finance is part of New York-s natural resources. Cultivating a space for financial technology innovation is critical to supporting NYC-s growing startup culture,” said Francesca Krihely, co-organizer of the Hackathon and Community Manager for MongoDB at 10gen.

“There are thousands of developers working in the financial industry. Our goal is to create a community where they can connect, collaborate on promising ideas and innovate with new technologies,” said Nick Gavronsky, co-organizer of the Hackathon and Head of Product at OpenFin.

“In addition to engaging FinTech developers, we want to bring together a diverse group of financial technology partners who can make their products available to attendees to build on top of,” said Michael Schonfeld, co-organizer of the Hackathon and Developer Evangelist at Dwolla.

APIs and development tools from technology partners will be made available during the Hackathon. Attendees will spend 24 hours coding, validating their ideas, networking and then demoing their hacks to a panel of FinTech VCs, executives and entrepreneurs.
