WANdisco Announces Hadoop Console for Simplified Enterprise Hadoop Deployment and Management

SAN RAMON, CA — (Marketwire) — 02/19/13 — WANdisco (LSE: WAND), a provider of high-availability software for global enterprises to meet the challenges of Big Data and distributed software development, announced the introduction of the WANdisco Hadoop Console (WHC). This solution is plug-and-play software with everything necessary to deploy, monitor and manage enterprise-class Hadoop big data implementations with minimal HBase or HDFS knowledge.

WHC, which includes everything necessary to deploy Hadoop, can be implemented as a virtual (VMware or Linux) or physical appliance. WHC also supports HBase to enable real-time (transactional) as well as batch processing (data analysis). Its intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) allows administrators to create as many Hadoop instances as they need for big data batch processing (MapReduce), big data real-time transactions (HBase) and private cloud deployments with the same features as Amazon-s S3.

“This product means that Hadoop is finally easy to install and manage for all enterprises,” said David Richards, CEO for WANdisco. “The console is also capable of massive performance and scale that is expected of enterprise Hadoop deployments and de-risks enterprises that have -skunk-works- Hadoop deployments in the public Amazon cloud.”

With WHC, WANdisco is the only big data vendor to support virtualization with both Linux and VMware. The resulting virtualized infrastructure dramatically improves server efficiency, increasing throughput from five to 10 percent to as much as 60 percent. This enables organizations to get the most out of their existing hardware investments without sacrificing availability or performance. WHC also enables elasticity with its support for live shrinking and expansion of Hadoop clusters as usage requirements change, without any downtime.

WHC supports multi-tenancy, crucial for organizations requiring shared storage between departments or customers offering two levels of isolation: weak and strong. Weak isolation is achieved within a single Hadoop cluster using Active Directory, allowing users to share the same Hadoop implementation. LDAP integration is also supported. WHC enables strong isolation with its support for virtualization, allowing multiple Hadoop implementations to securely share the same hardware resources, while keeping data and traffic entirely separate.

“It-s been a long time since I-ve seen a truly disruptive technology like WANdisco-s,” said Daryl Heinz, founder and CEO of Prognosive, a company providing training and consulting services that focus on Big Data profiling and analysis and a WANdisco system integration partner. “WANdisco is delivering on the promise that other Big Data frameworks are simply unable to achieve. We are delighted and honored that Prognosive is one of WANdisco-s first Big Data partners.”

The WHC also offers the option of implementing Hadoop with S3-enabled HDFS, providing full support for Amazon-s public cloud features such as metadata tagging, snapshots and data object versioning. This option drastically simplifies migration from Amazon-s public cloud environment to a private in-house cloud without any loss of functionality. This is critical for enterprises that want to de-risk Amazon public cloud deployments, saving time and money during the transition. In addition, popular applications that use Amazon S3 API, such as Amanda backup, SmugMug, Senduit, JungleDisk, etc., will run unmodified in the private cloud S3 storage solution provided by the WHC.

“WANdisco is addressing important issues with this product including the need to simplify Hadoop implementation and management as well as public to private cloud migration,” said John Webster, senior partner at storage research firm Evaluator Group. “Enterprises that may have been on the fence about bringing their cloud applications private can now do so in a way that addresses concerns about both data security and costs. Furthermore, in cases where enterprises that have deployed either non-strategic or test projects in the public cloud, WHC can quickly move those projects to a private cloud.”

The WHC and the S3-enabled HDFS option are both available at . WHC is priced at $1,000 per node annually, while the S3-enabled HDFS option for WHC is priced at $500 per node annually. Platinum Support for WANdisco Hadoop Products, which provides global 24/7 coverage, is priced at $3,000 per node annually and includes Guaranteed response times, indemnification coverage, Hadoop Cluster Health Check, 8 Hours of Free Consulting or Training, Bug Buddy and more. Gold Support provides 8/5 coverage (customer chooses GMT, EST or PST) and is priced at $2,000 per node annually. The WANdisco Hadoop Console will be demonstrated at WANdisco-s booth, #317, at the Strata Conference in Santa Clara, Feb. 26-28. For additional information, please visit .
