MacKay Meters Receives PTCRB Certification for MacKay Guardian(TM) SOLO Parking Meter

NEW GLASGOW, NOVA SCOTIA — (Marketwired) — 04/10/13 — MacKay Meters announced today that its latest version of the MacKay Guardian SOLO with an integrated cellular module, contactless payment and RFID using Near Field Communications (NFC), has received PTCRB Certification on April 5, 2013. This latest version of the SOLO features enhancements to power management and wireless performance. The SOLO became the first FCC certified, single-space wireless parking meter on September 21, 2011, the first to achieve EMV Level 1 Contactless Certification on December 27, 2012 and with today-s announcement, MacKay continues its regulatory lead by ensuring the latest SOLO adheres to all required PTCRB regulations.

“The SOLO can communicate wirelessly over a GSM cellular network. In order to be compliant with the GSM carriers- requirements MacKay had to meet the carriers- specifications as put forth through PTCRB.” said Adrian O-Neil, Chief Technology Officer of MacKay Meters. “From a cellular carrier-s perspective MacKay certainly understands why these requirements are in place. Carriers don-t want uncertified devices on the network causing unnecessary disruption, or directly interfering with other devices on the network. From MacKay-s perspective, we want our customers to know they are buying a quality product that meets regulatory requirements put forth by these carriers.”

About MacKay Guardian SOLO

The MacKay Guardian SOLO provides cellular connectivity and payment flexibility to customers. It supports a variety of payment forms including magnetic stripe credit cards, contactless NFC payments (e.g. MasterCard® PayPass®, Google Wallet), coins, smart cards, and pay-by-phone. In addition, the SOLO features MacKay-s patented SmartHousing technology which uses an RFID reader in the SOLO to read the location information from an RFID tag mounted inside the housing/pole. The SOLO then automatically adjusts its meter configuration based on that location, without human intervention.

About PTCRB

The PTCRB was established in 1997 as the wireless device certification forum by North American Mobile Network Operators (MNO).

The purpose of the PTCRB is to provide the framework within which cellular mobile devices and modules obtain certification for use on PTCRB Operator networks.

Obtaining PTCRB Certification on a mobile device ensures compliance with 3GPP network standards within the PTCRB Operators- networks. Consequently, PTCRB Operators may block devices from their network if they are not PTCRB certified. See for additional information.

CTIA has been assigned as the administrator for the PTCRB Certification process. See for additional information.
