Skyhigh Networks Named “Cool Vendor” by Gartner

CUPERTINO, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/07/13 — Skyhigh Networks, the company, today announced that it has been selected as a “Cool Vendor” in the Cool Vendors in Security: Security Services, 2013 (1) report by Gartner, Inc.

Organizations are adopting a range of cloud services for analytics, collaboration, CRM, development, project management, social media, storage and more. While these services enhance business agility, improve employee productivity, and reduce costs, unsanctioned services (known as “Shadow IT”) also create blind spots for IT departments. These blind spots can put corporate data at risk and threaten an organization-s ability to comply with regulations.

“Gartner has identified a new crop of security services that leverage innovations in cloud systems,” stated the Gartner report. “CISOs and other security decision makers should consider new vendors of cloud-based security services. These vendors bring a unique potential to IT environments that are grappling with a host of security issues.” (1)

“We consider being included in the Gartner Cool Vendor report as confirmation of Skyhigh Networks- unique approach to shining a light on -Shadow IT- and enabling and accelerating the safe and responsible adoption of cloud services,” said Rajiv Gupta, Skyhigh Networks co-founder and CEO. “Previously, organizations had no way to discover the cloud services employees were using and the ensuing risks, and they had no way to reduce these risks or comply with their security, privacy, regulatory, or governance requirements — which is the unique value Skyhigh delivers.”

The Skyhigh Networks Cloud Services Manager is a zero footprint, cloud-based, multi-tenant service that discovers, analyzes, and controls cloud services in use within an organization. In minutes, Skyhigh Networks discovers all cloud services accessed by employees and provides a 1-to-10 risk rating for each service. The risk rating is based on a detailed and objective weighted assessment of 30 attributes across data risk, user risk, device risk, service risk, and business risk.

Leveraging a proprietary analytical engine powered by Hadoop, Skyhigh Networks analyzes the usage of discovered cloud services and detects anomalies that may indicate potentially harmful use or information leakage. Skyhigh also compares actual use of all services within a category (e.g. cloud storage) and identifies opportunities to eliminate redundant services, consolidate subscriptions, and reduce costs.

Finally, with just three clicks, Skyhigh Networks enables IT security teams to easily enforce critical access and security policies for cloud services. Skyhigh Networks- data encryption and data loss prevention capabilities ensure that employees can safely and securely access cloud services at work, at home, or on the road from any mobile device — all without requiring an agent on the device or affecting the user experience.
