NCPDP 2013 Annual Conference Highlights Achievements & 2013 Goals

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — (Marketwired) — 05/10/13 — Hundreds of attendees descended on Phoenix this week for the – to celebrate the organization-s 2012 achievements and 2013 progress in advancing patient safety initiatives, standards development and improving the business of healthcare.

At the four-day conference, NCPDP President Lee Ann Stember provided a recap of recent accomplishments, including patient safety initiatives and standards development, as well as progress executing on key initiatives supported by its membership and validated by a recent organizational assessment:

NCPDP-s expansion into dental through an agreement with the ;

The launch of NCPDP-s Edvocacy Program to increase awareness of NCPDP-s standards and priorities among federal and state legislators; and

NCPDP-s Circle of Leadership Program which provides a framework and process for engaging proven NCPDP leaders to cultivate a succession of visionary leaders who will maintain the organization relevance and leadership in transforming healthcare.

NCPDP also announced the formation of the “NCPDP Foundation,” a 501(c)(3) organization that will provide funding for research projects and education to help advance NCPDP-s mission and vision for healthcare.

Conference keynote speakers included: Carolyn M. Clancy, MD, director of the ; Jennifer Frazier, policy analyst at the ; and , an internationally-renown futurist, physicist and best-selling author.

Thomas R. Bizzaro, R.Ph., vice president, health policy and industry relations, FDB (First Databank, Inc.) was appointed chair of the NCPDP Board of Trustees and Darren K. Townzen, R.Ph., MBA, director of billing, reconciliation, and healthcare data, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. was appointed vice-chair.

Newly elected Board Members include: Richard Klein Brook, vice president, pharmacy and sales, Emdeon; John W. Hill, MBA, MCM, vice president, sales and marketing, Argus Health Systems, Inc.; and Scott M. Robertson, R.Ph., Pharm. D, principal technology consultant, Kaiser Permanente.

Nancy J. Nemes, manager, Medicare and industry information, Catamaran; and Darren K. Townzen, R.Ph., MBA, director of billing, reconciliation, and healthcare data, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. were re-elected to the Board for another term.

Award Recipients

NCPDP named Perry Lewis, assistant vice president, PBM relations, McKesson AccessHealth, as recipient of its prestigious TIME (The Individual Member Excellence) Award.

Margaret Weiker, president, The Weiker Group, was presented the Benjamin D. Ward Distinguished Member Award.

Traci Lin Gercone, product industry consultant, Argus Health Systems, Inc., received the Rising Star Award
