New Report Finds Community Development 62 Percent More Effective Than Traditional Development

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 06/26/13 — , the leader in crowdsourced cloud development, today announced that an independent analyst research report found that community development is 62 percent more effective than traditional development. In the June 2013 report, “Link Outside the Box: Crowdsourcing Development for the Boundary-free Enterprise,” Saugatuck Technology explores how crowdsourcing can allow IT to scale apps and technical resources.

“Saugatuck analyzed CloudSpokes development challenges for their success rates and costs and determined that not only was crowdsourcing far more cost-effective, it produced higher-quality results and 62% fewer failures than employing a full-time developer to perform the same tasks,” writes Mike West, distinguished analyst, Saugatuck Technology. He adds, “Crowdsourcing draws on much greater specialization than a dedicated general programmer resource.”

Saugatuck-s analysis of how ISVs and enterprise IT departments are currently using crowdsourcing shows it can be a highly effective complement to in-house development or outsourcing. For example, when examining a similar set of projects, Saugatuck found crowdsourced developers to achieve a 97% project success rate compared to individual developers who achieved a 35% success rate. In addition to identifying the rate of the community success, the report points to five benefits that competition-based crowdsourcing brings to technical resources — multi-tenant workforce, variable skill, scale, process and economics.

“The cloud has revolutionized the way companies develop technology to power their business, as well as the way development talent can be sourced,” said Mike Morris, general manager, CloudSpokes. “Developer talent is no longer constrained by time of day and location, and CloudSpokes provides a marketplace that is mutually beneficial for developers and companies that are in need of development work.”
