Entuity Network Management Plug-In for Oracle Enterprise Manager Now Includes Advanced Event Management

BOSTON, MA and LONDON — (Marketwired) — 07/09/13 — , a leading global provider of enterprise network management solutions and Oracle Gold and Validated Integration Partner, today announced a significant extension to the information available through the Entuity Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) Plug-In. This powerful Plug-in allows users with both Entuity and OEM to easily add a network management component to the OEM console, thereby providing a more complete picture of overall system health along with powerful diagnostic and reporting tools. Network services can be designated as Oracle Enterprise Manager targets and, when combined with other targets such as servers, databases, and applications, they can provide a complete system-wide view of service delivery including a view of the network components involved.

This additional information is a direct result of the new Entuity Embedded Events Management System included in the latest Entuity (r 13.5) release. This rules-based system improves operational efficiency and business focus by reducing the number of escalated events to improve visibility, reduce distractions and make events more actionable. Other event management systems often generate -event storm overload- or -blinking light blindness- rendering the system useless for troubleshooting and solving even the most critical issues.

According to Jim Frey, vice president of network management research at Enterprise Management Associates, “The challenges associated with keeping on top of the constant stream of network and infrastructure management events are well known. Entuity has addressed this directly with its new advanced/embedded event management features. In this implementation, Entuity has successfully avoided the majority of pitfalls that exist with historical technologies for effectively managing, correlating, escalating, and otherwise manipulating event streams. The result is a powerful and incremental set of features that will go a long way in helping Entuity solution users to adapt the system to their specific environment and needs. Further, adding such advanced capabilities directly into the core product at no extra charge should be nothing short of a delight for network and infrastructure managers everywhere.”

The Entuity unified network management solution allows companies to logically group together network components that support specific business functions or geographies. For example, all network components that support Oracle-s PeopleSoft applications can be bundled together and monitored as the PeopleSoft Network Service. Through the Entuity Plug-in for Oracle Enterprise Manager, network services can then be designated as Oracle Enterprise Manager targets and, when combined with other targets such as servers, databases, and applications, they can provide a complete system-wide view of service delivery. This powerful association allows users to better monitor application health by detecting potential network problems that may be affecting application service delivery.

The Entuity embedded Event Management System uses a combination of active and passive polling to determine actual outages and it uses up-to-date connectivity information to suppress alerts for ports and devices behind the root cause. Information about detected problems goes through noise filtering before it is presented to operators in the form of actionable events and UIs that make it easy to troubleshoot and fix problems before they turn into major outages or slowdowns. The system comes with a dozen predefined rules based on the best practices of major customers worldwide. These rules include N of M/Holdoff, Flapping Detection, Pattern Detection, and Event Enrichment, as well as built-in automated escalation and notification. New rules can be configured through the UI without the need for editing configuration files or additional scripting.

Users of Entuity, OEM and the Plug-in will begin to realize the full benefits of this new information as soon as the latest release of Entuity (r. 13.5) is installed.
