Schneider Electric Adopts AutoGrid-s Energy Data Platform (EDP) for Its Wiser Home Management System

PALO ALTO, CA — (Marketwired) — 09/05/13 — , a leader in Big Data analytics for the electricity and energy industry, and , a global specialist in energy management, announced a partnership today to bring demand response and Big Data analytics services to utilities, service providers and consumers in North America.

Under the partnership, Schneider Electric will integrate AutoGrid-s Energy Data Platform (EDP), a cloud-based Big Data platform for managing and optimizing the electricity grid, into its , a comprehensive solution that connects utilities and consumers, enabling homeowners to better control energy consumption. Wiser Powered by AutoGrid will allow utilities to reduce peak power, curb emissions, and improve energy productivity to effectively utilize more of the electricity that is generated on the grid by enabling users to have a closer connection to their energy information.

Schneider Electric will also resell AutoGrid-s Demand Response Optimization and Management System (DROMS), a cloud-based demand response service, to utilities and energy service providers in North America.

“Demand response technologies provide utilities with a wealth of new capabilities — controlling peak power is just the start. The Wiser home management system is also enabling utilities to empower homeowners by giving them easy access to their energy usage,” said Yann Kulp, Vice President, Strategy & Business Development, Schneider Electric. “By collaborating with AutoGrid, we will be able to reduce the cost and complexity of implementing these systems and introduce these capabilities to a wider spectrum of customers and end-consumers.”

“We are very excited about working with Schneider Electric, which has been a leader in the electric industry for over a century,” said Dr. Amit Narayan, founder and CEO of AutoGrid. “Data is a remarkably powerful tool. Giving utilities and consumers greater insight into the grid and power consumption leads to a more efficient and reliable grid, while reducing the cost for everyone.”

The Schneider Electric Wiser home management system is a comprehensive demand management solution for utilities and consumers. The system provides visibility and control of household energy use, enables homeowners to drive energy efficiency by reducing or shifting energy use during peak times, and provides customizable settings for optimal comfort. By connecting networked Wiser devices through smart meters to the grid, utilities can better stabilize and ensure a reliable network for their homeowners.

AutoGrid-s EDP analyzes multiple streams of structured and unstructured data originating from smart meters, grid sensors, and other energy management systems and combines this data with physics-based models of the transmission and distribution networks as well as other sources of information such as weather feeds and customer demographics to generate comprehensive, accurate forecasts concerning power consumption and grid conditions. EDP, in effect, lets utilities to peer into the future and plan for it: the forecasts serve as the basis for strategies to dynamically reduce peak consumption and effectively manage power quality in the presence of intermittent renewable resources such as solar and wind.

AutoGrid DROMS, a cloud-based demand management application built on top of EDP, can cut the cost of implementing demand response programs by 90 percent while increasing the “yield” of power from demand response events by up to 30 percent. At the same time, DROMS ensures that the yields from these programs remain highly reliable and predictable so utilities can rely on them for mission-critical operations: DROMS can be integrated into operations in days and allows utilities to schedule and enact demand response events in minutes. The system also provides consumers with choice and flexibility when it comes to taking advantage of demand response incentives, automates pricing and program participation, and verifies power reductions and billing credits to back office operations.

Founded in 2011, AutoGrid is dedicated to bringing the power of Big Data, predictive analytics and Internet scale computational techniques to the production and consumption of electricity. Serving utilities of all sizes, grid operators, electricity retailers, ESCO services companies, and end-users, AutoGrid develops and markets software solutions that both help lower costs and improve reliability of the electricity supply chain. AutoGrid-s technology was awarded the prestigious Department of Energy-s Advanced Projects Research Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) funding in 2012. For more, please see our or .
