Covario Reports Soaring Increases in Mobile Search Spend

SAN DIEGO, CA — (Marketwired) — 10/29/14 — Covario, Inc., a leading search and content marketing firm, today issued its for Q3 2014, reporting a 16% increase in total global paid search advertising spend over the previous quarter, and a 28% increase year-over-year among the company–s high tech, consumer electronics and retail clients. The increase in media expenditures can be attributed to a 39% rise in traffic and 20% rise in impressions over 2013. The soaring use of mobile is the driving factor behind these substantial increases in media spends. Today, mobile accounts for 33% of total search budgets globally, a 180% increase over Q3 2013.

Alex Funk, the study–s author and Covario–s director of global paid media strategy said, “There are one billion active Android users, and Apple now sells 10 million devices during the first weekend a new mobile product is made available. Big brands are quickly adjusting spends to capture this rapidly growing demand.”

Globally, cost-per-clicks decreased 8% compared to 2013. According to Funk, this decrease is again driven by the larger percentage of mobile device traffic, which has been at a heavy discount compared to desktop bids.

Based on these in depth study findings, Funk advises advertisers to budget for a 15 to 20 percent increase in paid search spending in Q4 and moving into 2015. He advises a heavy allocation of those funds be spent with Google over other major search engines. This advice varies slightly in the EMEA and APAC regions, and is detailed clearly in this report.
