Puppet Labs Enables DevOps Practices in Enterprise Windows Environments With Extended Windows Support

PORTLAND, OR — (Marketwired) — 12/11/14 — the leading provider of IT automation software, today announced the availability of its Windows module pack, a pre-packaged collection of all the Puppet Supported and Puppet Approved modules admins need to manage Windows environments. Available later this month to Puppet Enterprise customers is the new Puppet Supported Microsoft SQL Server module, which enables admins to quickly deploy, configure and manage Microsoft SQL.

This builds on Puppet Labs– first class Windows support, including native .MSI packages for x32 and x64 operating systems, modules to extend common Windows server management tools, including Powershell, and integrations with Microsoft Azure and Visual Studio. By automating common Windows administration tasks, Puppet Labs is enabling users to adopt DevOps practices, thereby reducing the time needed to deploy applications from weeks to hours.

The new module installs and provides ongoing management of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and 2014. Replacing error-prone, manual processes, administrators can automate the installation of multiple MS SQL instances to enable rapid deployment of test and production environments. Admins can:

Create logins with passwords and manage server roles

The new makes getting started managing Windows environments simple. With a single command, Puppet users can install all of our supported and approved modules for Windows and their dependencies. The Windows module pack includes:

: These modules are fully tested, validated and supported for use with Puppet Enterprise.

– Provides fine-grained control of security, with the ability to set permissions for users and groups from within Puppet Enterprise.

– Enables administrators to manage services like backups, user profiles, IIS, Exchange and more from Puppet Enterprise, by executing PowerShell commandlets.

– Allows admins to automate the management of Windows Registry keys and values.

– Automates the manual task of rebooting Windows after you install a package or when a reboot is pending.

These modules are recommended by Puppet Labs for use with and meet our standards for quality composition, reliable operation, and active development.

The first available Puppet Approved module for Windows environments is which enables admins to turn Windows features on or off for Windows Server 2008 and above.

Also available in the Windows module pack and to be Puppet Approved soon: (downloads files for use on Windows servers) and (create sites, application pools and virtual applications with IIS 7 and above).
