Gizmo 2 Powers Jump! Expo at National Videogame Arcade

NOTTINGHAM, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwired) — 05/27/15 — GameCity–s recently unveiled (NVA) is the world–s first cultural center to celebrate and explore videogame culture. The arcade showcases a range of displays including vintage arcade machines, home computers and more. The NVA also features a series of special exhibits built on the x86-based single-board computer (SBC) from the community.

The first special exhibition in the NVA–s constantly changing program is Jump!, an in-depth exploration of this fundamental gameplay mechanic. Jump! examines the history and spirit of jumping, from Donkey Kong (1981) to Destiny (2014), through a series of innovative interactive exhibits and playable games. An integral part of the exhibit is the Jump-o-tron, a new machine — produced by the NVA and powered by Gizmo 2 — that enables players to control the physics of a game, adjust gravity, create characters and design their own perfect jump.

“We–re thrilled to see the innovative technologies being built at the National Videogame Arcade with Gizmo 2,” said Colin Cureton, product and technology manager at GizmoSphere. “With a powerful x86 system-on-chip, Gizmo 2 is a perfect platform for a variety of enthusiast and DIY projects due to its exceptional graphics, processing power and ease of use. The creative application of Gizmo 2 for the Jump! exhibit shows that the uses are bound only by the imagination.”

Gizmo 2 is one of the highest performing platforms, with 85 GFLOPS performance, designed for advanced DIYers, tech enthusiasts and embedded developers. Built upon the central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) technology powering today–s leading video game platforms, data centers and PCs along with a complete open-source development ecosystem, Gizmo 2 offers elite compute and graphics performance to power the most demanding projects.

“Gizmo 2 was critical to powering many of the exhibits at the National Videogame Arcade, including Jump!, and we–re delighted with how these exhibits have turned out,” said NVA Co-Director Iain Simons. “The board–s powerful computing, excellent graphics and ease of development have created a one-of-a-kind exhibit that we–re excited to share with our visitors this year. The Gizmo 2 is also being used to power a number of other exhibits within the arcade. We look forward to using Gizmo 2 to power additional NVA displays and exhibits in the future.”

Jump! is open to visitors now and will run through July 2015.
