SPEC/GWPG Previews Benchmarking Plans

LOS ANGELES, CA — (Marketwired) — 08/12/15 — SPEC–s Graphics and Workstation Performance Group () announced today at Siggraph 2015 its benchmarking plans for the months ahead, including SPECviewperf support for 4K-resolution content, upcoming workstation performance-measurement initiatives, and new application benchmarks.

Current SPEC/GWPG members are AMD, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Intel, Micron, Lenovo, NVIDIA and VMware.

SPEC–s graphics performance characterization () group plans to support 4K-resolution content in the next version of its SPECviewperf benchmark, expected before the end of this year. SPECgpc is also working on a new viewset to measure graphics performance for systems running Autodesk 3ds Max.

SPEC–s workstation performance characterization () group is working on a major update to its namesake benchmark introduced in late 2013. The group plans to improve scalability measurement for workstations with large numbers of processing cores and to fully integrate solid-state storage into its performance testing.

SPEC–s application performance characterization () group has near-term plans for new products to evaluate total system performance for professional workstations running Siemens NX CAD/CAM and Autodesk Maya 3D animation applications.

2015 has been a successful year so far for SPEC/GWPG in terms of both product development and revenue generation. , benchmark sales to commercial entities (vendors and others who profit from computer sales and services), and of benchmark results for publication on the SPEC website have all increased.

“So far this year, we–ve added significant new virtualization capabilities to both SPECviewperf and SPECwpc and have released new versions of our PTC Creo and SolidWorks application benchmarks,” says Ashley Cowart, SPEC/GWPG chair. “We–ve been able to increase revenue as well, which is invested back into new and better benchmarks.”

The SPEC Graphics and Workstation Performance Group (SPEC/GWPG) is a worldwide leader in standardized performance evaluation for systems that run professional graphics and workstation applications. It is a membership group of , a non-profit organization that establishes, maintains and endorses standardized benchmarks and tools to evaluate performance for the newest generation of computing systems. SPEC membership comprises more than 100 leading computer hardware and software vendors, educational institutions, research organizations, and government agencies worldwide.
