7th Open Source Backup Conference 2015 started with a major Release

Nuremberg, October 07, 2015 – The OSBConf takes place in the Rhine city every year since 2009. This year again, the leading conference on backup took place on two days. The specialist for open source events, NETWAYS Event Services GmbH, and the company dass IT were in charge of the organization.
After Maik Aussendorf welcomed all participants, he announced the availability of the next major Bareos release. The 15.2 release candidate has passed all regression and continuous integration tests on all supported platforms. More than 300k lines of code were modified since 14.2.2, including cleanup, redesign, bug fixes and many new features.

As one of the minds of the Bareos Project, Philipp Storz himself started the first talk “Backup of VMware snapshots with Bareos” together with Stephan Dühr, one of the persons mainly responsible for the development of the plugin.
Amongst others, Niels de Vos (Red Hat), Alberto Giménez (CAPSiDE), Marco Weiss (Kessler GmbH), Josef Weingand (IBM), Christoph Mitasch and Thomas Niedermeier (Thomas Krenn AG), Christian Theune (Flying Circus) as well as the managing director of Bareos, Maik Aussendorf, guaranteed an informative and interesting program.
In addition to the talks, workshops and hands-on trainings were offered on the first day of the event.
With 65 guests from six countries, the conference reached a new attendance record and the organizers have plans to expand internationally within the next years.
In 2016 the Open Source Backup Conference on Bareos will take place on September 26th and 27th in Cologne.
