MuleSoft Accelerates Government IT Modernization and Digital Transformation

WASHINGTON, DC — (Marketwired) — 07/20/16 — MuleSoft, provider of the leading platform for building , today announced it is investing in its vertical solutions roadmap, expanding its team of experts and partner ecosystem to address major challenges in the global public sector. MuleSoft has built dedicated public sector teams across the Americas, Asia Pacific and EMEA, including a new federal sales office in Washington, D.C. to support the company–s growth into the U.S. federal government. MuleSoft–s Anypoint Platform is built to meet the needs of both digital transformation and legacy modernization initiatives in the public sector, including serving 7 of the 9 largest federal agencies.

For leading enterprises across the private and public sectors, digital is becoming a core competency. However, government agency IT teams are asked to do more than ever while contending with shrinking budgets. This challenge is compounded by the fact that these IT teams are dependent on costly, inflexible legacy systems to execute on mission goals. Addressing these challenges requires a fundamental change to their current operating model. An API-led connectivity approach helps federal, state and local government agencies innovate rapidly and put data at the center of their missions, without losing security or control.

“The pressure to digitally transform is sweeping the public sector,” said Dustin Laun, ctr., Sr. Advisor Innovation/Technology for the FCC. “As government organizations look to modernize legacy systems, proper integration and API strategies need to be a priority. Technologies such as MuleSoft enable an agile approach to the execution of these strategies.”

While the number and variety of public-facing open datasets and APIs published by government agencies continue to increase, legacy system modernization remains a critical priority on agency agendas. Agencies must expose legacy systems as services quickly and securely to better leverage current IT investments.

According to Gartner, “Today–s government leaders recognize the critical role of data as a strategic asset. It is the innovative use and reuse of digital data that powers business transformation and delivers value that is recognized by legislative bodies, citizens and the workforce. Leveraging its vast repositories of data, government leaders can drive transformative change by ensuring data is available, accessible, and readily shareable so that it can be analyzed and combined to create new end-to-end value streams across wide service networks.”

By building application networks, MuleSoft customers in the public sector can more efficiently achieve mission objectives. An application network is a network of applications, data and devices connected with APIs to make them pluggable and to create reusable services. APIs allow for any digital asset to be quickly discovered and easily reused by consumers on the application network, increasing developer productivity to power innovation within government.

“MuleSoft enables our clients to increase operational efficiency and maximize the re-use of existing assets through API-led connectivity,” said Aaron Weikle, founder and CEO, MS3, and former Senior SOA lead for the Department of State. “With Anypoint Platform, a large government agency responsible for managing U.S. international relations delivered a planned two-year initiative in nine months and generated a cost savings of over $650,000 per year by migrating off legacy solutions. We–re excited to continue working with MuleSoft to achieve results like this for our clients.”

MuleSoft works with federal civilian and defense agencies, as well as numerous state, local, and central governments worldwide. Global public sector customers include the Department of Defense, Department of Agriculture, Department of the Treasury, Federal Communications Commission, State of Colorado, and the NSW Department of Family and Community Services in Australia.

MuleSoft has invested in dedicated public sector teams across the Americas, Asia Pacific and EMEA, including a new sales office in Washington, D.C. to support the company–s expansion into the U.S. federal government. The D.C. office is led by regional vice president, Chris Aherne, an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience in the federal sector at Adobe and BMC Software. Tim Marsh has joined the team as director of federal SI alliances and channels, bringing more than 15 years of experience from Acquia, EMC and Salesforce. To meet government agencies– high standard for security and compliance, Kevin Paige has joined MuleSoft as head of information security and compliance, after more than 15 years delivering security solutions for both the private and public sectors including the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force, Salesforce and CACI International.

MuleSoft has reinforced its commitment to the by streamlining government purchasing through its involvement in global procurement frameworks, with intent to enroll in the G-Cloud 8 Framework in the United Kingdom and to pursue a General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule in the United States. Anypoint Platform can also be purchased by Australian government organizations through Government Information Technology Contracting (GITC) and Procure IT.
