The Virtual Reality Foundation Launches First-Ever “Girls Make VR” Workshop at VRLA Summer Expo 2016

LOS ANGELES, CA — (Marketwired) — 08/03/16 — The Virtual Reality Foundation — producer of , the world–s largest virtual reality expo — is proud to announce “Girls Make VR,” a first-of-its kind workshop debuting at on August 5th, 2016. The workshop is specifically targeted toward young women interested in learning how to create their own VR content using the latest VR hardware and software available.

The attendees of the class will be made up of young local members of the trailblazing organization , a national non-profit organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology, as well as members of , and . These young women, ages 13-18 with STEAM careers in mind, will get an unprecedented opportunity for hands-on learning of virtual reality technologies. The students will learn how to make their first VR scene in the 5 game engine, and be able to view their work on Oculus Rift head-mounted-displays. The class is being mentored by members of , as well as co-organized by (Shaping Holistic Inclusion in Future Technologies), a non-profit organization that partners with industry leaders in emerging technology to sponsor opportunities for minority groups.

The Virtual Reality Foundation would like to thank for its generous donation of high-end computers, for providing mobile VR viewers for every girl to take home, and for their continued support of VRLA School workshops. The Virtual Reality Foundation also thanks for sponsoring the post-workshop luncheon where the girls will meet with YouTube and virtual reality influencers. In the afternoon, they–ll explore the VRLA expo floor, where they will be able to meet over 100 VR exhibitors, learn about their careers, and get to try the latest VR experiences!

Founded in 2014, The Virtual Reality Foundation is a non-profit that was created at the nexus of the emerging medium of virtual reality and Los Angeles– entertainment industry. The foundation produces the semi-annual VRLA expos, where a new generation of technologists, enthusiasts, and thinkers converge to try the latest immersive experiences, consumer gear, and creators– tools. The Virtual Reality Foundation will also host the third annual Proto Awards in the fall of 2016 — the first-ever awards show for virtual reality content.
