Combatting Linux Security Risks With Automation

LOS ANGELES, CA — (Marketwired) — 08/11/16 — The growth of Linux in the enterprise has accelerated rapidly since the launch of Amazon Web Services (AWS) 10 years ago. Linux is widely adopted as the platform of choice for the cloud, becoming the backbone operating system of the majority of IT.

With the rise of Linux, however, there has also been a spike in cyber attacks targeting the platform. Just like with other operating systems, Linux hosts with unsecured credentials are easy targets for attackers. Some of the most common Linux security vulnerabilities include default passwords that are never changed and weak passwords set for human convenience.

“With so much of today–s IT infrastructure running on Linux, the need to win this security battle has never been more important,” said Jonathan Sander, VP of Product Strategy at Lieberman Software Corporation. “Defeating the cyber attacks targeting Linux requires security that is just as flexible and automated as Linux is. At Lieberman Software we provide security solutions with the scalability, speed and automation required for large and dynamic Linux environments.

Lieberman Software–s (ERPM) is a Privileged Access Management product that secures the powerful privileged credentials often targeted during cyber attacks. ERPM ensures that these credentials are unique and frequently changed, whether in the cloud or on premises. That way, even if a credential is stolen by an intruder, it is time limited and cannot be used to jump from system to system on the network.

ERPM was recently enhanced with new Linux security capabilities. The current version of the product can automatically find SSH keys, sudo policies and privileged accounts on Linux systems. It then rotates their credentials to keep these assets secure.

Lieberman Software is hosting a webinar, Linux Security Automation at Scale on Thursday, August 18 at 2pm Eastern Time (US). Led by Mr. Sander, the webinar will cover Linux security vulnerabilities and discuss how Lieberman Software is uniquely positioned to combat these threats through security automation.
