Preempt Extends Secure Authentication to Any Application

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/23/17 — , pioneer of the industry–s first behavioral firewall, today announced the availability of Preempt Any App, a new offering that enables organizations to easily add secure authentication to any enterprise application without having to do any special integrations or manual coding to the application. Any App is vendor agnostic and allows customers to gain more value out of their existing investments in multi-factor authentication (MFA) solutions such as Okta MFA, SecureAuth, Duo, Google Authenticator and others.

“Security teams want to better protect their organization and application from threats and breaches by adding policies that require users to validate their identity via authentication techniques before accessing corporate applications. While adding MFA to web applications is relatively simple, many have found that protecting on-premises applications is more complex. Integrating secure authentication into each application requires significant resources, which typically leads to the majority of internal applications not being protected by MFA, or a very fractured approach at best,” said Ajit Sancheti, co-founder and CEO of Preempt. “Preempt removes the need for application customization, and turns the task of adding MFA support to applications into a simple matter of defining policy, which saves both time and money, while also protecting the organization from security breaches.”

Preempt builds secure authentication at the network layer and works for both Windows and Linux environments. When a user first connects to an application, the application attempts to verify the user–s identity. Preempt proxies this request, and based on the policy, can trigger the organization–s MFA solution to push a challenge to the end user. Once identity is verified, access to the application is granted. This approach can be extended to any application that authenticates over the network, allowing organizations to place consistent controls on all applications regardless of whether they are hosted locally or in the cloud.

The flexibility of the Preempt Policy Engine also allows staff to fine-tune exactly how to enable secure authentication. Instead of forcing MFA for all users all the time, staff may want to require MFA only for certain users or devices, or require MFA when a user connects from an unmanaged device. Likewise, MFA policies can trigger based on abnormal user behavior, such as a user connecting to a new asset, or from a new location or new device. This gives teams flexibility to apply contextual controls to any application, and keep end-users empowered while continuing to protect the network and its assets.

Any App is based on Preempt–s highly adaptable policy engine and natural role as an authentication and application proxy. In the past, enforcement by the Preempt Behavioral Firewall has been triggered by changes in user behavior. Any App expands on this capability to deterministically enforce secure authentication based on the type of user and the application being accessed.

Any App can be purchased as a standalone product or as part of the complete solution. Pricing is based on a combination of number of users and servers.
