NVIDIA Holds Its Largest-Ever Employee Volunteer Event in Silicon Valley; 1,500 Employees, Volunteers Skipping Holiday Party to Support Local Farm

SUNNYVALE, CA — (Marketwire) — 12/07/11 — NVIDIA today announced that it will conduct one of Silicon Valley-s largest-ever employee volunteer events this week, with 1,500 employees and community members gathering to bolster Full Circle Farm-s ability to continue providing local students and families with access to fresh produce and nutrition education.

Project Inspire — which takes places on Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10 — is the company-s annual holiday initiative of hosting community service in place of a holiday party.

The work this year is focused on transforming Full Circle Farm-s operations, enabling it to become financially self-sustaining and to expand its ability to host and provide educational programs for students and families in Silicon Valley. The total value of materials, services and employee volunteer hours behind the project is $380,000.

Full Circle Farm is a unique social enterprise that reinvests earnings from produce sales back into the community through programs that teach kids and families about the importance of living healthy and sustainably by eating local produce. Specific projects include:

: Create an outdoor teaching and demonstration facility where students can learn about the science of food and how to prepare healthy meals that incorporate local produce.

Erect and furnish a facility that will enable Full Circle Farm to better store and prepare the produce that it sells to restaurants, schools and individuals.

: Build a structure that will welcome visitors and enable the Farm to sell its own produce.

: Add irrigation to the farm-s orchard, increase the quality of the soil and improve the ability of the farm to plant and grow more produce.

NVIDIA-s contributions will help advance healthy living, in addition to educating thousands of youngsters about science through hands-on projects. In 2010, NVIDIA partnered with Schmahl Science Workshops, in San Jose, to build a greenhouse and create several community garden beds, at History San Jose, so that low-income families and youth from around the area could engage in healthy eating. In previous years, NVIDIA helped local high schools upgrade their facilities and program offerings in science education.

Jen-Hsun Huang, president and chief executive officer of NVIDIA, said, “Project Inspire has helped thousands of local students and families over the years, improving education, health and our local environment. It gives our employees and their families great joy to come together during the holidays to make a difference in our communities.”

“NVIDIA-s Project Inspire grant will fast-track Full Circle Farm-s ability to reach sustainability and fulfill its mission to transform how Silicon Valley thinks about food, nutrition and health,” said Wolfram Alderson, executive director of Full Circle Farm. “The work done in December will allow us to engage almost three times as many students as we currently do, as well as improve dramatically the number of community volunteers that can now support the farm and enjoy locally-grown produce.”

:

Project Inspire has contributed about $1.7 million in grants and volunteer hours over five years to Silicon Valley communities.

This year-s Project Inspire will involve 1,500 employees and community members, compared with 1,000 in previous years- activities.

NVIDIA has partnered with City Year () for the third year to execute the two-day event.
