Open Source community to meet for pioneer Open Source Data Center Conference

In a largely online ‘industry’ the Open Source Data Center (OSDC) Conference will offer a rare opportunity for open source minds to gather and share the latest ideas and technologies in person.

Attendees look forward to meeting recognised speakers such as Puppet creator Luke Kanies, Linux Magazine columnist Charly Kuehnast and Balazs Scheidler the founder of syslog-ng & BalaBit.

Open source solutions to be covered are high availability, clustering, load balancing, firewalling, large scale databases, monitoring, change and configuration management solutions.

Hot topics already on the program include MySQL database architecture, load balancing with Linux Virtual Server and Clustered Samba. The bilingual conference will offer 2 days of presentations and hands-on workshops in both English and German.

Open source growth in recent years has seen it become a significant competitor to commercial solutions. Particularly in highly sensitive and vastly networked IT environments, more and more modern companies are seeing the benefits of flexible and cost effective open source softwares.

Yet the forums for discussion and exchange of technologies are still inadequate for this fast growing ‘industry’.

Bernd Erk, Operations Manager of host, NETWAYS noted the importance of such conferences: “We saw how many open source professionals were coming to our annual conference on Nagios, and realised there just weren’t any other opportunities for them to gather information outside of the internet. Being able to meet and discuss ideas in person is simply invaluable”, he said.

With attendees expected from across Europe, the Open Source Data Center (OSDC) Conference promises to be a highlight on the open source calendar.

In the spirit of the internet grown community however, the conference will offer online streaming for those unable to attend through sponsor Linux Magazine.

More information and registration to the Open Source Data Center (OSDC) Conference can be found at http://www.netways.de/osdc. Early bird specials on conference packages are available till 31 January 2009.
