Hapag-Lloyd Recognized for Superior IT Performance by GT Nexus Shipper Council

HAMBURG, GERMANY — (Marketwire) — 06/12/12 — The GT Nexus Shipper Council, a community of the world-s biggest importers and exporters, today announced that it has recognized Hapag-Lloyd for outstanding data quality performance over the past 12 months. Announced at the annual GT Nexus user conference, Hapag-Lloyd received the award for providing the best overall data quality to the community of shippers that are operating their supply chains on the GT Nexus cloud supply chain platform.

The GT Nexus Shipper Council is a group of executives from large shippers, across industry verticals that are automating their global supply chains through the GT Nexus Cloud Supply Chain Platform. The companies on the Shipper Council have combined annual revenues of over EUR 1 trillion and move millions of containers annually.

“The purpose of the Shipper Council is to work collectively as a group to improve key technology challenges with strategic partners such as the ocean carrier community,” said Martin van Dam, Container Freight Manager EMEA at Cargill in Amsterdam, and Head of the GT Nexus Shipper Council Europe. “Data quality from ocean carriers is critical to every large shipper represented on the Council. Hapag-Lloyd has demonstrated commitment to improve data quality and delivered results. On behalf of the entire GT Nexus customer community, I congratulate them on a job well done.”

“We place a premium on technology innovation,” said Uwe Rieksmeier, Director Global e-Business at Hapag-Lloyd. “Winning this award for the second time in three years proves that our efforts to gather and provide transport visibility data via multi e-channels are paying off with customers. We are truly honored to receive this recognition from the Shipper Council.”

Unlike traditional software company user groups, the Shipper Council members all share GT Nexus as a common cloud technology platform to run their global supply chains. This allows them to measure and benchmark against the collective industry performance and improvements by any one member will benefit the entire community. The work of the group has moved the industry average data quality score to well above 90% across the top 20 ocean carriers representing over 80% of global capacity.

“The Shipper Council is focused on addressing a number of key issues including sustainability, partner relations and ERP best practices,” added van Dam. “Ocean data quality was one of the first target areas and the success has been significant. By recognizing the winning performers, we hope the rest of the industry will take notice and step up their efforts to become the data quality award winners in 2013.”
