Wind River Becomes Key Sponsor for ISC Open Source Routing Initiative

REDWOOD CITY, CA — (Marketwire) — 08/03/12 — Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) is delighted to announce that Wind River is a major sponsor of the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) Open Source Routing project. ISC is working to support the community development of vital open-source routing technology platforms, including Quagga.

ISC has nearly two decades of experience in open source software development and the processes that surround it, including not just development, but release management, testing, bug management and support. Wind River joins the ISC community to contribute to and benefit from collaborative improvements to Quagga-s stability and scalability as a key building block of an advanced switching platform. In becoming a major sponsor of ISC Open Source Routing, Wind River has demonstrated its commitment to the development of enterprise-grade public routing technology that will benefit the entire industry.

“We are working closely with sponsors such as Wind River to help release a mainstream and stable code base, beginning with Quagga,” said Kannan Ayyar, president of Internet Systems Consortium. “With a stable qualified routing code base and a strong ecosystem of open source and commercial partners such as Wind River, we can help accelerate technologies and standards, such as OpenFlow for cost effective switching and routing solutions, and be an enabler for leading-edge technologies that comprise Software Defined Networks, which we think will be a sea change in the networking industry.”

“Open Source solutions for key technologies such as routing, switching and virtualization are critical to accelerate the growing market for network virtualization and software defined networking. The industry needs open source solutions for these new markets and Wind River has a strong culture of sponsoring and supporting key open source projects that will help create the next evolution of network architecture,” said Gershon Schatzberg, open network software manager at Wind River. “Wind River is proud to support ISC-s work to advance and grow network innovations such as Quagga.”

Our passion is Internet core technology. Our widely-imitated Managed Open Source process ensures the quality of our software while keeping it completely open and available. ISC operates high-reliability global networks of DNS root servers (F-root) and authoritative DNS servers both for non-profit and commercial enterprises. ISC is actively involved in Internet protocol and standards development, particularly in the areas of DNSSEC and IPv6. ISC is supported by donations from generous sponsors, by program membership fees, and by increasing revenues from for-profit subsidiaries.
