2012 Health IT Leadership Summit Deemed a Success

ATLANTA, GA — (Marketwire) — 12/11/12 — The third annual brought together some of the industry-s biggest companies and leaders for what has become the Southeast-s largest gathering devoted to health IT innovation.

Held December 4 and hosted by Verizon Wireless, the Summit showcased innovative approaches to meeting the future needs of healthcare, from improving the population-s health, to addressing the quality and cost of healthcare. The Summit ranks as one of the nation-s premier health IT events, with more than 500 business leaders, healthcare providers, and public and private organizations in attendance.

AirWatch was one of two companies that received the Phoenix Award presented by the Metro Atlanta Chamber, along with . Paula Guy, CEO of , was recognized as Community Leader of the Year. The Phoenix Awards recognize individuals and companies that have made an outstanding contribution to the growth of the health IT industry in Georgia.

Harris County High School won the Health IT Student Innovation Award. They were one of four finalists that developed a diabetes education mobile app. Each of the finalist teams pitched their apps to Summit attendees, who then voted on the winner. The other three finalists were: Southeast Bulloch High School, Meadowcreek High School (Norcross) and Coffee County High School.

Georgia is the nation-s health IT capital and is home to almost 250 health IT companies and seven companies on the HCI-100, including McKesson Technology Solutions, which is ranked the world-s largest by Healthcare Informatics. Georgia-s health IT companies employ approximately 28,000 people in the state, and thrive due to the concentration of best-in-class health IT vendors, nationally recognized care providers, global public health organizations such as CARE and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and a continuum of workforce development programs that ensure trained employees at all levels.

The Health IT Leadership Summit was founded in 2010 by three organizations to support the growth of the health IT industry: the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Metro Atlanta Chamber and Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) Health.
