Innovative Austin Start-Up Developing Interactive, Multilingual Apps to Teach Kids Language and Literacy, Plus Explore Their Cultures and Heritage

AUSTIN, TX — (Marketwire) — 02/20/13 — Determined to help more children and families discover, explore and enjoy other cultures and their own heritage, Circletime Kids has begun the rapid expansion of its interactive, engaging multi-cultural content for mobile devices — starting with an interactive, multi-lingual version of Little Red Riding Hood.

Founded by Rachel Dory, an interactive designer and mother of two, the expansion of Circletime Kids is in response to demand from early customers and parents who wanted more immersive ways to engage their families and children in their heritage.

“Children who learn the sights and sounds of a new language get a head start in their education, with improved cognitive development especially at an early age,” said Dory, whose CircletimeKids.com is a thriving multicultural community where kids learn about cultures through recipes, crafts, songs, stories, games and art.

“I want to preserve our roots, strengthen families and prepare kids for the future. By using a familiar character (Little Red Riding Hood) to deliver the message, kids feel comfortable and have fun while exploring new horizons, cultures and ideas,” she said.

The app will be a resource both in introducing English speakers to other languages, and in introducing foreign children to the English language. Refugee centers, ESL teachers and bilingual pre-schools as well as home-school parents will find the app a particularly helpful tool.

Circletime Kids has set a Kickstarter fundraising goal of $37,000 to complete the application in English and Spanish. Funds received beyond this goal will be used to release additional languages, starting with Mandarin, French and German.

Cinderella is next on the list of applications to be developed in the Circletime Kids library.
