The Wall Street Journal Adopts Spreecast Social Video Platform to Engage Readers and Supplement Editorial Coverage

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwire) — 03/19/13 — Spreecast, the social video platform that connects people through video conversation, and The Wall Street Journal today announced that the Journal will be using the Spreecast platform to supplement their editorial coverage with video conversations that enable participation from readers. These interactive video conversations will be part of WSJ Live, which brings influencers and decision-makers live news and on-demand video directly from reporters across the globe.

The editorial staff from the Journal is using Spreecast to host multiple regular panels, including a fashion series called “How to Make It” and a show on entrepreneurship called “Ask the Accelerators” (@WSJStartup). “How to Make It” features style reporter Elizabeth Holmes (@EHolmesWSJ) and involves fashion experts who discuss topics such as, “How to Make It as a Fashion Blogger” and “How to Make It as a Fashion Designer.”

“Ask the Accelerators” features high profile entrepreneurs and venture capitalists who discuss the issues and challenges facing startups. In addition, the Journal recently covered South by Southwest on location in Austin using Spreecast and interviewed attendees in an effort to bring the event to a global audience. Both shows appear weekly and can be accessed via WSJ Live, available on 30 platforms, including WSJ.com.

The Journal has a third new show called “The Experts,” which features panel discussions with industry leaders and influencers focused on current events within six key topics: leadership, small business, retirement, energy, wealth management, and healthcare.

Viewers across the world can join these Spreecasts and have the opportunity to express their opinions and engage with the Journal community in a fresh and interactive way simply by joining on camera to engage and interact. They can ask a question, pose a question on screen, text chat with others in their community, share on Facebook and Twitter, or just observe and learn.

“Our mission is to connect people through video conversation. We are pleased that The Wall Street Journal has chosen Spreecast to create compelling interactive content to engage their audience,” said Jeff Fluhr, co-founder and CEO of Spreecast. “We look forward to continuing to innovate with them.”

Adds Rahul Chopra, Vice President of Global Video at New News Corporation, We-re always looking for new ways to create conversations and communities around our content on WSJ Live. Spreecast has proven to be an incredibly innovative platform for us to accomplish this and we-re eager to see how our presence on the platform continues to evolve.”

The Wall Street Journal utilizes Spreecast-s social video platform to produce highly interactive face-to-face live video broadcasts that anyone can participate in using only a browser and a webcam. The broadcasts are recorded and immediately available for playback and sharing on WSJ Live. In addition, social media interaction includes a customizable Twitter stream, Facebook Comments and sharing across most social networks.

Many other major media companies leverage the Spreecast platform including various divisions of Time Warner, Disney, and Viacom.
