Zagster and Bulfinch Bring Bike Sharing to Cambridge Discovery Park

CAMBRIDGE, MA — (Marketwire) — 04/01/13 — Zagster, a company that provides turnkey bike sharing services, today announced it has partnered with The Bulfinch Companies, Inc. to offer bike sharing at Cambridge Discovery Park, a 30-acre sustainable urban office and research campus located in Cambridge. People who work on the campus can reserve and ride comfortable, city-friendly cruiser bikes, allowing them a healthy, convenient and fun way to run errands, grab lunch, attend meetings or just plain exercise. Bikes will be available beginning April 4, 2013.

“As more and more people rely less and less on their car to get to work — especially given the proximity to public transit at Cambridge Discovery Park — having access to -wheels- onsite becomes important,” said Timothy Ericson, co-founder and CEO of Zagster. “With Zagster on site, people can still get around town in a healthy, cost effective and fun way. We-re thrilled to be working with Bulfinch to make an already sustainable development even more so.”

Numerous bikes will be available on-demand at the Cambridge Discovery Park campus for up to a 24-hour period. Each bike contains a bike lock with the key stored inside a lock box. After joining Zagster at riders simply Text -start- plus the bike number (e.g. -start 46-) to a phone number. A confirmation message with the access code for the lock box is texted back. This action reserves the bike for the remainder of the day or until the bike is returned. Riders text “end” to the same number, which releases the bike for the next rider.

“Bike sharing is the perfect amenity for Cambridge Discovery Park,” said Michael Wilcox, Vice President of Leasing at Bulfinch. “We took many measures to ensure the property offered an abundance of green space, gave back to the environment and had buildings that were LEED certified. Now, with Zagster, we-re helping to make sure that how tenants get to, from and around the property is as sustainable as possible as well.”

Cambridge Discovery Park consists of a 30-acre office and laboratory campus and is situated in an ideal location on Route 2 within walking distance to the MBTA Alewife commuter station. A highly appealing feature of the campus is the abundance of green space, which includes a variety of paths for bicycling and walking. In addition, the 11-mile Minutemen Bikeway, which serves bike commuters in Bedford, Lexington, Arlington and Cambridge, runs through the Park campus. Cambridge Discovery Park is master-planned for 6 sustainable office buildings, and the Forrester building currently holds a LEED Platinum certification. Bulfinch also earned a Go Green Award from the City of Cambridge for its Stormwater Management Design at the Park.

“I am pleased to offer this amenity for tenants and to support clean environmental business practices,” said Eric Schlager, CEO of Bulfinch. “Sustainability is very important to us and we look forward to expanding our relationship with Zagster across the Bulfinch portfolio.”
