Boundary Recognized as a “Cool Vendor” for DevOps by Gartner

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 04/16/13 — was named a “Cool Vendor” for DevOps by Gartner, Inc., in a issued last week(1), capping a successful anniversary for the IT Operations Management startup which needed less than 12 months to sign its first 80+ customers. Boundary is a cloud-based application performance monitoring solution for next-gen applications that delivers real-time network flow statistics on any application, across any technology architecture.

Boundary was founded in 2011 by engineers to solve performance problems in distributed applications, and began selling its cloud service in April 2012. Based in San Francisco, Boundary has raised $19 million in and is led by IT management industry veteran Gary Read, who was previously president and CEO at Nimsoft.

The key to Boundary-s success has been its , which receives and analyzes over 7 TB of data each day. Boundary is the first IT Operations solution to discover and adapt to changes in application behavior instantly by using the streamed data to map logical application dependencies. Boundary also provides advanced alerting and reporting to customers and has forged partnerships and integrations with other leading providers in the DevOps tools- chain such as AppDynamics, Opscode, Puppet Labs and Splunk.

According to Gartner, “DevOps is a philosophy that, at its core, espouses the idea that IT organizations should model themselves after cloud providers, where agility is a way of life and development and operations teams work collaboratively with the single goal of agile delivery to production. DevOps originated with a focus on continuous integration and delivery. Yet, even with cloud providers, people and processes are not enough. DevOps success depends on the use of tools to automate and streamline configuration, release and monitoring processes — along with other processes (e.g., testing).”

“Boundary significantly reduces the cost and complexity of IT Operations by offering the product as a full SaaS solution,” said Gary Read, CEO at Boundary. “Boundary is ideal for any organization looking to migrate to a cloud infrastructure or running modern, highly distributed applications.”

provides a new kind of application monitoring for new IT architectures: one-second app visualization, cloud-compatible, and only a few minutes from setup to results. Boundary is a privately-held company based in San Francisco, California with venture funding from Lightspeed Venture Partners and Scale Venture Partners.
