Riverbed Announces Virtual Performance Solutions Support on Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V and Hyper-V Server 2012 Environments

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 06/03/13 — (NASDAQ: RVBD), the application performance company, today announced Riverbed® Stingray® Traffic Manager application delivery controller (ADC) software and Virtual Steelhead® wide area network (WAN) optimization appliances support on Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V and the cost-free Hyper-V Server 2012. Through their ongoing strategic relationship, Riverbed and Microsoft help organizations consolidate the branch office and the data center to improve agility and business continuity, reduce costs, and simplify operations.

Hyper-V Virtualization helps ensure that virtualization infrastructure can support the configuration of large, high-performance virtual machines for sustaining workloads that need to scale significantly. The Riverbed performance platform, including the ADC and WAN optimization product families, helps organizations improve application performance across virtualized environments, from the data center to the branch. In addition, Riverbed helps deliver this data efficiently over networks to ensure network and application availability, performance, and security.

“Windows Server 2012 introduced leading-edge virtualization capabilities with Hyper-V and Hyper-V Server. Riverbed Stingray Traffic Manager and Virtual Steelhead appliances provide performance optimization in branch offices and data centers, including the largest and most complex Hyper-V virtualized environments,” said Mike Schutz, general manager, Server and Tools Marketing, at Microsoft.

The Riverbed Stingray Traffic Manager is a full-featured software ADC. With this announcement, organizations now have the ability to deploy Stingray Traffic Manager in any virtualized data center or cloud environment using Hyper-V. This allows them to take advantage of Stingray Traffic Manager-s advanced Layer 7 application services to increase server efficiency, boost the throughput of application servers, and reduce response times through dynamic caching and global load balancing.

Organizations that deploy Riverbed Virtual Steelhead appliances will be able to accelerate applications and data transfers in Hyper-V environments without having to purchase, setup, provision, and maintain multiple physical servers in branch offices. By leveraging virtualization, organizations can significantly increase flexibility and agility while reducing labor costs. Built on the same Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS®) technology that powers physical Steelhead appliances, Virtual Steelhead appliances deliver market-leading WAN optimization features and value, including specific application acceleration for Microsoft applications. Riverbed WAN optimization solutions are designed to work within and across cloud, physical and virtual environments, providing an optimal solution to make movement of data and workloads over long distances feasible, while reducing bandwidth utilization by up to 98 percent and speeding applications by up to 100 times for branch and remote workers.

“This continuing alliance couples two global leaders in delivering integrated enterprise solutions for the mutual benefit of our customers,” said Venugopal Pai, vice president, global alliances, at Riverbed. “Working hand-in-hand over the years, we have helped customers maximize the value of enterprise solutions in several key technology areas. Our customers are able to increase IT efficiency, improve application performance, and enjoy cost savings in a variety of Microsoft cloud, physical, and virtual deployments that now includes Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V and Hyper V Server 2012.”

Stingray Traffic Manager software with support for Hyper-V 2012 is now generally available. Virtual Steelhead with support for Hyper-V 2012 is expected to be generally available in Q2 2013.
