Puppet Labs Now Certified to Run on Red Hat OpenStack

BOSTON, MA — (Marketwired) — 06/12/13 — , the leading provider of IT automation software for system administrators, today at the Red Hat Summit announced its cloud automation technology is certified to run with Red Hat OpenStack, Red Hat-s commercial OpenStack distribution.

Red Hat OpenStack is Red Hat-s highly scalable Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution that delivers an open, flexible, and enterprise-ready private cloud foundation built on the community OpenStack project integrated with and optimized for Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Red Hat OpenStack Certification helps customers identify third-party solutions that have been tested and certified with the Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform as well as Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure. Red Hat OpenStack customers will benefit from Puppet Labs- enterprise-proven IT automation technologies, which enable them to rapidly deploy and manage highly scalable and reliable OpenStack clouds.

“OpenStack is a highly disruptive technology, and we expect Red Hat-s release to transform cloud computing much as Red Hat Enterprise Linux did in the operating systems space,” said Luke Kanies, CEO of Puppet Labs. “The use of Puppet Labs- technologies and Red Hat OpenStack provides an easily consumable, reliable, scalable and automated solution for enterprise customers.”

Puppet Labs- enterprise-grade scalability and reliability coupled with its support for heterogeneous environments allows customers to easily scale from a single-server proof of concept to thousands of servers across all enterprise operating systems, cloud environments and service providers. Through employing Puppet Labs- declarative, model-based approach to cloud automation, system administrators gain the agility they need to rapidly deploy and manage new applications. Puppet Labs- technologies are also included in some of the largest OpenStack deployments — most notably at CERN, which automates the creation of 250 new virtual machines per day.

“Red Hat is an established leader in the enterprise and in building commercial products from open source software, positioning the company well for growing interest and use of the OpenStack cloud software,” said Jay Lyman, Senior Analyst, 451 Research. “Part of Red Hat-s commercial and community success comes from its enterprise partner ecosystem, which also translates to deeper, fuller OpenStack support. Core to that ecosystem is Puppet Labs, which is among the primary providers of cloud automation in the enterprise and in OpenStack implementations.”

“By 2015, CERN will be managing 150,000 virtual machines running on 15,000 physical servers, without increasing current headcount,” said Tim Bell, Infrastructure Services Manager at CERN. “The robustness of the Puppet Labs- solutions for OpenStack and the innovative community behind it are key for us to achieve these goals.”

“We-re pleased to have Puppet Labs join us in the Red Hat OpenStack Cloud Infrastructure Partner Network,” said Mike Werner, senior director, Global Ecosystems, Red Hat. “To help customers get the most out of the Red Hat OpenStack offerings and our open hybrid cloud solutions, we work closely with technology companies like Puppet Labs that provide powerful and complementary solutions. We look forward to continued collaboration with Puppet Labs as a key member of the Red Hat OpenStack ecosystem.”
