Acer America Corp. today announced the Acer K520 hybrid laser-LED projector for commercial users in the U.S. This new projector leverages hybrid laser-LED technology that has an exceptionally long life span, reducing maintenance and lamp replacement costs. It offers great picture quality, a high contrast ratio and excellent color saturation, and is ideal for users in education and other commercial environments.

Hybrid laser-LED technology, a system of LED light and lasers, provides superb color fidelity that far exceeds that of a standard mercury light projector. Its wide color gamut and up to 85 percent color saturation NTSC(1) create deep color tones for brilliant, life-like imagery. It also delivers a high brightness of 2,000 ANSI lumens (standard) and 1600 ANSI lumens (ECO mode) to project clear images. Visuals are displayed in the native 4:3 aspect ratio and the high 100,000:1 contrast ratio produces razor sharp images with deeper darks and brighter whites, rendering vibrant graphics for slide presentations, film and video, and making projected text easier to read. Boasting XGA resolution, this new projector displays the latest content in vivid detail and can also project up to 300-inch images.

“The K520 projector is ideal for business meetings and classroom environments with its long lamp life of 20,000 hours that provides years of usage with little to no maintenance,” said Chris White, senior director of product marketing, Acer America. “Its instant on/off capability enables users to power the projector on and off automatically without having to wait for it to cool down, which saves time and enables it to be packed immediately after use.”

Acer hybrid projector color technology offers flexible color settings and a wider color gamut. Users can select the color settings by RGB (red/green/blue) sequence in three display modes including bright, standard and movie. This provides more color flexibility than the color wheel system and dramatically reduces ghost images and rainbow effects. Leveraging Acer-s eColor Boost II+ technology and wall-color compensation, the Acer K520 makes colors pop on any surface, even tinted walls. Plus, ColorSafe II prevents color decay, such as the yellow and green tint displayed by some projectors that have been used for extended periods of time.

The Acer K520 supports 3D image output, and when paired with either Acer 3D or DLP 3D glasses, it can be used to enjoy lifelike 3D content for educational and commercial demonstrations. It also provides keystone correction for projecting a rectangular image even when the projector isn-t placed perpendicular to the screen.

The Acer K520 comes with a range of outputs to provide users with several options for accessing content. These include analog RGB/component video, composite, S-video, PC audio and HDMI. With multiple-PC source input, several PCs can be connected to the projector at the same time, offering more flexible connectivity with instant switching between devices.

The Acer K520 features a sleek, intuitive design with a control pad embedded on the sleek gray and metal surface. An appealing look and feel sports a white and gray color scheme and rounded contours. It weighs 8.9 pounds and measures 12.6-inches x 9.1-inches x 3.4-inches.

This hybrid laser-LED projector also comes with Acer SmartFormat Technology that provides multi-format support for instant projection. It automatically syncs with wide-format displays without requiring resolution adjustments from a PC.

An Instant Resume feature enables the projector to recommence projection immediately after it has been turned off without requiring users to wait for it to cool down.

Mercury and halogen-free, this hybrid laser-LED projector is environmentally-friendly and delivers a long lamp life of 20,000 plus hours,(2) reducing lamp replacement costs for a lower cost of ownership. To save power and prevent overheating, it also has an internal mechanism that shifts the projector into standby mode if an input signal isn-t present. Called Acer ExtremeEco projection, this mode provides up to 90 percent power savings when compared to bright mode, extending the lifespan of the lamp.

The Acer K520 hybrid laser-LED projector is available now for customers in the United States for a manufacturer-s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $1,599.99. It is backed by a one-year warranty.(3)

1) Color gamut is the range of color a display can reproduce and is commonly expressed as a percentage of NTSC. Although NTSC stands for National Television System Committee, which developed television standards for North America, in this instance, the percentage of NTSC refers to the full range of color that can theoretically be displayed.
2) Lamp life depends on a variety of factors including brightness and can be maximized via Acer EcoProjection Technology, which allows the user to customize power-saving configurations.
