Call for entries: Laufen sponsors excellent house architecture

Private houses enjoy a unique status both in the history of architecture and in the human imagination. Their core function is to provide shelter, a secure roof over one”s head – but they are also objects of desire, the canvas onto which people project their wishes and a playground for architects. From Le Corbusier to Koolhaas, the history of modern architecture can be traced through a series of groundbreaking private houses.
The AR House Awards, which were awarded for the second time in 2011, wish to promote and strengthen this tradition, regardless of the size, location, budget or age of the project. The only condition is that the building project must have already been completed. A prestigious international jury will assess all of the projects which have been submitted on www.arhouse.co.uk by 23 May 2011. The award ceremony will take place on 7 September 2011 as part of an event in London.
For Laufen the act of sponsoring the House Awards means that it has an opportunity to give back to the world of architecture something of what architecture has given to the company. “The house was always a stage for countless innovations, so it is naturally of particular interest to us as bathroom manufacturers,” explains Alberto Magrans, Senior Managing Director at Laufen. “After all, we draw a great deal of inspiration from contemporary trends in architecture.” An understanding of architectural concepts and the space in itself are what one would expect from the Swiss bathroom specialists. So Laufen also frequently works with renowned architects to design products that can be incorporated seamlessly into bathroom architecture.
