AVM Deploys Vectoring on Its Installed Base of Nearly Two Million Ikanos-Based Home Gateways, Increasing Broadband Data Rates by up to 3X

FREMONT, CA — (Marketwired) — 10/17/13 — . (NASDAQ: IKAN), a leading provider of advanced broadband semiconductor and software products for the digital home, today announced that AVM, a leading manufacturer of broadband networking devices in Europe, has begun deployment of vectoring to its installed base of Ikanos-based FRITZ!box 7390 home gateways. Soon to reach the two-million mark, the deployment is expected to create one of the largest installed bases of vectoring CPEs in Europe. The enhanced gateways, which are powered by the Ikanos Fusiv® gateway processor, will be able to achieve a 2X-3X increase in broadband data rates. Users are also expected to experience significantly improved video performance resulting from the integrated G.INP protocol support. This standard VDSL protocol provides additional protection against impulse noise, which in turn translates into a higher quality of service for the consumer. AVM will demonstrate the performance of the vectoring gateway at the Interoperability Pavilion at Broadband World Forum 2013, in Amsterdam, held Oct. 22-24.

“Since its initial deployment, the FRITZ!box 7390 has been one of our most successful broadband home gateway platforms, experiencing continued consumer demand in the market,” said Peter Faxel, Executive VP Products & Technology, AVM. “We expect our close collaboration with Ikanos and the resulting vectoring deployment on this platform to create additional interest in FRITZ!box, as the higher throughput and the improved noise protection further enhance consumer quality of experience.”

“We are pleased to see the continued success of the FRITZ!box 7390, AVM-s flagship DSL gateway in the market,” said Kourosh Amiri, vice president of marketing, Ikanos. “Ikanos and AVM share a common vision and commitment to delivering best-in-class broadband connectivity to consumers. With the advent of vectoring and the widespread support among global carriers, AVM-s large-scale deployment of vectoring on its flagship product once again puts the company at the forefront of broadband gateway technology. We-re excited to be a key technology partner for AVM and applaud them for their vision and leadership.”

Forward-looking statements address matters that involve risks and uncertainties. Accordingly, there are or will be important factors that could cause our actual results to differ materially from those indicated in these statements. We believe that these factors include, but are not limited to, the following: whether the installed base of our products will reach the two million mark, whether deployment of vectoring will reach all two million gateways, whether the vectored gateways will achieve a 2x to 3x increase in data rates and/or significantly improved data performance, the rate at which we will continue to sell our Fusiv® gateway processor to AVM or other customers, the acceptance of our products by our customers and telecommunications service providers; macroeconomic conditions which may cause our customers to defer purchasing plans or cancel any purchasing plans altogether despite successful design wins; the continued demand by telecommunications service providers for our specific xDSL semiconductor products; the failure of telecommunications service providers to implement deployment plans on schedule, or at all, despite increased performance results; our ability to generate demand and close transactions for the sale of our products; competition in the markets in which we operate; and the fact that the products we sell may not satisfy shifting customer demand or compete successfully with our competitors- products. For a more detailed discussion of how these and other risks and uncertainties could cause our actual results to differ materially from those indicated in our forward-looking statements, see our reports filed with SEC (available at ), including our Annual Report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 30, 2012 and our Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the fiscal quarter ended March 31, 2013.
