Instacart Offers Same-Day Grocery Delivery to More Bay Area Residents in Time for the Holiday Rush

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 11/06/13 — Instacart (), the only service that can deliver groceries from multiple local stores within an hour, announced today that it has expanded its geographic coverage in the San Francisco Bay Area, adding three cities in the South Bay — Los Altos, Sunnyvale and most of Redwood City. Customers can see Instacart-s service area map here:

Instacart offers its customers the ability to combine items from Whole Foods, Safeway and Costco into one order and have them delivered on the same day.

Instacart founder and CEO Apoorva Mehta said, “We wanted to reduce the level of stress for as many customers as possible throughout the Bay Area during the busy holiday season. Now, more things can get done since they don-t have to battle crowds at Costco or their local grocery stores. Customers can even call us when they-re in a pinch and get their items delivered within an hour.”

Originally launched in San Francisco in May 2012, Instacart continues to expand throughout the Bay Area. Its service is now available in 10 Bay Area cities including San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Redwood City, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Mountain View, Los Altos, and Sunnyvale. In September, the company successfully introduced the service in Chicago.

Instacart has disrupted the traditional space with its crowd sourced labor force dubbed “Personal Shoppers” who shop for and deliver grocery orders using their own vehicles in as little as one hour. This eliminates the need for costly infrastructure such as inventory, warehouses, trucks and full-time drivers. Instacart is not affiliated with the stores; its model is to connect customers with Personal Shoppers who shop on their behalf.
