Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. Upgrades Collaborative Supply Chain Solution to Increase Efficiency

ISELIN, NJ — (Marketwired) — 11/14/13 — Even though you may not recognize its corporate name, you-ve probably been in one of its stores. As a regional department store in the Northeast, Midwest and Great Plains, Bon-Ton operates 273 stores under various names in 25 states: Bon-Ton, Boston Store, Bergner-s, Herberger-s, Elder-Beerman, Carson-s and Younkers.

With roots in York, Pennsylvania, Bon-Ton dates back to 1898 and for its 100-plus year history it has maintained its focus on attention to detail, quality merchandise at a fair price and a product line that includes national brand names and private labels that are tailored to its customer base. In the 1960s Bon-Ton began an era of rapid expansion which continues today. In 2003, the company doubled in size by acquiring Elder-Beerman, based in Dayton, OH. And three years later, Bon-Ton doubled the number of stores again, when it acquired the Northern Department Store Group from Saks, Inc. Today, from its Milwaukee, Wisconsin offices, over 100,000 SKUs are sourced and delivered to stores around the country with help from top technology provider, ecVision.

Seven years ago, Bon-Ton implemented ecVision-s solutions for vendor management, PO integration and production/shipment tracking for its international orders. Working through global sourcing giant and connected to Kuehne & Nagel-s logistics teams, ecVision is the platform that consolidates all of the data and functionality to ensure the flow of goods from around the world. But with new programs and with the desire to enhance its commercial invoicing processes, Bon-Ton-s sourcing teams reached out to ecVision to improve the existing platform.

“The first step was to bring Bon-Ton-s older ecVision implementation up to today-s cutting-edge features. This includes our cloud-based, hosted platform along with the framework functionality for robust collaboration, reporting and tracking tools,” said Cheryl Layne, VP of Customer Success for ecVision. “Then the commercial invoice process was modified to allow suppliers to provide data for “first sale” declarations that lower the customs value when importing into the US.”

“The upgrade has also enabled us to streamline our business processes and eliminate redundant data-entry points,” said Joe Brauer, Bon-Ton-s Vice President of Application Systems. “The new system significantly reduces the amount of time required to create and maintain international purchase orders, allowing our merchants and private brand teams to spend less time on administrative work and more time driving the business.”

With the upgrade and enhancements, the workload for Bon-Ton-s suppliers is lightened, processes are streamlined, and Bon-Ton-s internal teams will be armed with the information they need to realize these cost savings and ensure compliance with government regulations.

ecVision offers a cloud-based supply chain collaboration platform that optimizes product lifecycle and supply chain processes. The enterprise platform, ecVision Suite, reflects the standardized business processes from design to delivery, creating a single collaborative solution for private label brands, retailers and their trading partners. With increased visibility and workflow, users can improve their reaction time to demand changes, shorten product lifecycles, lower product and materials costs, and improve sourcing and logistic efficiencies. Tailored specifically for smaller brands, manufacturer and importers, ecVision Comply is a risk management/data management platform that revolutionizes supplier and product safety compliance.
