With millions without food, water and other basics, we have an opportunity to help make a meaningful difference in their lives by contributing to recovery efforts. Let-s send an email later this afternoon to collect charitable donations for recovery efforts in the Philippines.”
Vikas Kamran, Revel-s CEO sent this email to the lead of Revel-s Sustainable Giving program at 7:38 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13. Little did he know just how large of a response he would get.
By 10:57 a.m. the email was distributed to all Revel Associates, often referred to as Revelers. In it, Kamran pledged to personally match two dollars for each one donated to the American Red Cross through Friday, November 15. A date just two and a half days away.
Within minutes donation receipts from the American Red Cross started to come in. The first came from Reveler Lara Peterson.
“Love the idea. I-ll try to find the other donation I already made, but this is fantastic,” said Peterson. “…Just sent more given the offer.”
And, more Revelers responded. Some of which shared how the typhoon had hit close to home, even though it made landfall half-a-world away.
“…This literally hits home for me as my Dad-s side of the family is from the Philippines,” wrote Reveler Ty Madarang. “I have connected with some of my relatives and from what I have gathered they are okay, but so many aren-t. I-m absolutely delighted Revel is making an effort to help with this tragic event.”
“My aunts make yearly trips out to Manila and send monthly care packages to family out there,” wrote Reveler Kory Mills. “I really appreciate your generosity and for putting this together.”
Other Revelers helped spread the word across their own network.
“Not sure if this offer included family members, but I-ve gotten my mom in on the fun as well!” wrote Reveler Matt Rubright. “I-ve got the Premera team donating as well,” Rubright wrote later on that day. Rubright is currently working on a project with Premera Blue Cross.
As the donations continued to roll in, expectations continued to be exceeded. When all was said and done, 43 Revelers contributed a total of $5,149. After Kamran-s two-to-one match, a total of $15,447 was donated to support American Red Cross- Typhoon Appeal.
