Hytera Mobilfunk wins contract for state-of-the-art communication system for the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe Group

The Trapeze Group general contractor in cooperation with the integrator company Comtechnik Funk are upgrading the existing communication system and realising a state-of-the-art operational control system for the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe Group. Last week, as part of this modernisation process, Hytera Mobilfunk won the contract to upgrade the existing TETRA radio system.
Hytera Mobilfunk shall be enlarging the current TETRA radio system with the addition of a redundant switching node and three DIB-500 R4.1 TETRA radio base stations, including an outdoor base station for use in a railway station. The TETRA radio system is integrated through its own, multifunctional A-CAPI interface into the existing ITCS infrastructure. Along with the radio system, Hytera Mobilfunk is also responsible for the project management, planning, configuration, commissioning and the documentation.
The entire communication solution between the vehicles and the control room as well as the displays at the stops are to be modernised as part of the expansion process. The TETRA radio system for the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe Group shall transmit the passenger and connection information in real time to the vehicles, where it shall be shown on the existing multifunction displays. The TETRA radio system will continue to be used for communication between the vehicles and the control room, as well as for the displays at the stops.
Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe operates 13 tram system lines and 61 bus lines for the local public transport service in the Leipzig metropolitan area. Consequently, the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe Group conveys roughly 135 million passengers every year. The new communication system provides passengers with an optimised range of services including shorter journey times and better information, while also enhancing the level of travelling comfort. The project will be funded with money from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Saxony.
