Oracle Delivers Real-Time Communications to Midsize Businesses With Acme Packet 1100

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 09/29/14 — ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO – Oracle (NYSE: ORCL)

Midsize businesses and branch offices of large organizations have unique capacity needs and requirements to deliver trusted, real-time communications across IP network borders. To meet these needs and to help IT managers provide voice, video, and data services with uncompromising reliability and performance, Oracle has designed the Acme Packet 1100.

Oracle today announced the release of Oracle–s , an enterprise session border controller (E-SBC) appliance optimized for midsize organizations and branch offices of large enterprises.

Midsize organizations often face security, interoperability, and reliability challenges when extending real-time voice, video, and unified communications (UC) sessions. They also tend to process fewer communications sessions than large corporations — requiring a smaller-scale and more cost-effective session border control platform.

Acme Packet 1100 extends the product family to include a cost-effective, high-performing, small form factor appliance that enables midsize enterprises and branch offices to support the same sophisticated, secure, real-time enterprise communications services — including voice, video, and multimedia — as larger organizations.

Acme Packet 1100 is deployed at network borders to protect businesses from security threats to IP networks, address interoperability challenges, and enable reliable access to UC services — helping support a more productive office environment.

Acme Packet 1100 provides enterprises with a reliable and feature-rich platform that is easy to install and administer. It enables organizations to:

Reduce costs and improve real-time communication reliability over legacy trunking technology by connecting to SIP trunking services and the internet

Increase business agility with secure access to the cloud

Encrypt communications between remote and branch offices

Acme Packet 1100 provides system capacity, performance, and availability optimized to support small branch offices and midsize businesses. Specifically, the solution:

Supports as many as 360 simultaneous signaled sessions

Offers an optional time division multiplexing (TDM) interface — the legacy network technology — to enable consistent communications in the event of an IP network outage

Supports quality of service measurement and hardware-assisted transcoding between a variety of UC system formats without compromising end-user experience quality

“Many smaller enterprises and branch offices of larger businesses require the same SIP trunking and session border controller capabilities as larger organizations, but do not have the manpower or budget needed to run these large-scale platforms. Oracle has introduced Acme Packet 1100 to address the unique capacity and pricing requirements of smaller organizations, with the same connectivity, security, and control offered on larger platforms,” said Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications.

“Led by the desire to reduce operating expenses, 62 percent of companies will deploy SIP trunking by 2015, up from just 26 percent in 2013. Furthermore, the percentage of PSTN trunks converted to SIP will rise from 24 percent to 47 percent in that same time span. Session Border Controller solutions designed for branch offices that also integrate into core SBC platforms offer the opportunity to minimize management complexity and maximize potential cost savings,” said Irwin Lazar, vice president and service director, Nemertes Research.
