–Encyclopedia of Electronic Components, Volume 2– — New From Maker Media

SEBASTOPOL, CA — (Marketwired) — 12/16/14 — The hotly anticipated second volume of a planned three-volume set, Charles Platt–s (Maker Media; $29.99), is now available, just in time to surprise the special electronics aficionado in your life this holiday season.

Exhaustive in scope and reference, this full-color volume focuses on those electronic components as found in signal processing, including LEDs, LCDs, audio, thyristors, digital logic, and amplification.

Perfect for teachers, hobbyists, engineers, and students of all ages, this reference book puts reliable, fact-checked information right at your fingertips — whether refreshing your memory or exploring a component for the first time. Beginners will quickly grasp important concepts, and more experienced users will find the specific, in-depth details their projects require.

Platt — a former Senior Writer for Wired magazine — took on this ambitious trilogy when he discovered that there is simply nothing else like it available.

“I began work on the Encyclopedia of Electronic Components when I discovered that a reference work of this type does not exist,” Platt says. “The Encyclopedia is unique in that it is organized by topic, encouraging the reader to discover alternative ways of achieving the desired result. While some of the information exists online, it is not gathered together in one place, fact-checked, and presented in a uniform style, in a way that enables efficient access.”

Platt–s Encyclopedia series is . . .

the first and only encyclopedia set on electronic components, distilled into three separate volumes

includes information distilled from hundreds of sources

parts are clearly organized by component type

fact-checked by expert advisors to ensure that the information is both current and accurate

a more consistent source of information than online sources, product datasheets, and manufacturer–s tutorials

each component description provides details about substitutions, common problems, and workarounds

covers power, electromagnetism, and discrete semiconductors; This Volume includes LEDs, LCDs, audio, thyristors, digital logic, and amplification; Volume 3 — set to publish May 2015 — covers a range of sensing devices.

An indispensible addition to any serious electronics library, Encyclopedia of Electronic Components Volume 2 is intended for continuous consultation. It–s one of those invaluable texts that may just change lives.
