TELUS Donated $2.8 Million to More Than 110 Organizations in the Greater Montreal Area

MONTREAL, QUEBEC — (Marketwired) — 01/22/15 — (TSX: T)(NYSE: TU) – Today, at its Celebration of Giving, TELUS announced that it has donated $2.8 million in 2014 to support more than 110 organizations in the Greater Montreal area. The TELUS annual event aims to highlight those whose outstanding work and dedication enable positive change in their community. TELUS also took the opportunity to recognize Groupe Meloche for its commitment to the community with the TELUS SMB Award.

This is why we have always believed it is important to recognize the steadfast efforts of local individuals and companies who contribute to the well-being of our communities and the future of youth,” says Francois Gratton, president of TELUS Quebec and Atlantic Canada. “The total donation of nearly $3 million went to over 110 organizations in support of their community-based projects to meet important needs in the Greater Montreal area. The innovation they demonstrated in carrying out their initiatives is very inspiring to us.”

In 2014, TELUS and its Montreal Community Board supported many projects which sought to build a better future for youth. Numerous organizations received financial support, including Pour 3 Points, a charitable organization which stood out in 2014 and received a major grant of $50,000. Other organizations also received donations, including Cuisines et vie collectives Saint-Roch, the Marie-Vincent Foundation, Institut Pacifique and Ruelle de l–avenir.

TELUS SMB Award: Groupe Meloche

Founded last October, the TELUS SMB Award recognizes the philanthropic efforts of small and medium-sized businesses in Quebec that contribute to expanding and developing community-based initiatives and broadening the reach of the organizations they support. Groupe Meloche truly stands out with its community engagement values and its culture of giving, exemplified by President and CEO Hugue Meloche. As a result, Groupe Meloche received a $2,500 award to donate to the charitable organization of its choice.

Innovation serving community involvement

Professionals, volunteers, community organization representatives, and business leaders gathered on Thursday for a presentation and an expert panel discussion on the role of social and technological innovation in philanthropy featuring: Dr. Nicolas Bergeron, President of Doctors of the World Canada; Daniel Asselin, President and founder of Episode; Catherine Bourbeau, digital anthropologist at TELUS; and Laurent Proulx, Executive Director of PROCURE.
