2015 Advanced and Predictive Analytics Market Study Now Available From Dresner Advisory Services

NASHUA, NH — (Marketwired) — 08/26/15 — Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2015 Advanced and Predictive Analytics Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. The report examines usage of advanced and predictive analytics techniques such as statistics, modeling, machine learning, and data mining to analyze facts and make predictions about future, or otherwise unknown, events.

The second annual Advanced and Predictive Analytics Market Study was written in collaboration with industry expert Neil Raden and builds on the previous year–s edition to examine changing user perceptions and plans as well as current and future industry capabilities. While many of the advanced and predictive analytics tools have been available for decades, actual deployment remains in the early stages, with just 27 percent of respondents reporting current usage, according to the study. This adoption varies greatly by organization size, industry, and user role, with at least as many having no plans for deployment.

According to the study, higher education, telecommunications, financial services, and retail have slightly higher than average adoption plans. Some of the most common use cases cited for advanced and predictive analytics include fraud and churn analysis in telecommunications and financial services, and customer analytics and logistics in retail.

The most popular analytic features support traditional statistical methods such as regression models, hierarchical clustering, and textbook functions. Data preparation is uniformly important, with respondents showing a high and growing interest in a broad set of data preparation features, specifically set operations and automation of data quality support, according to the report.

“In our second annual look at the advanced and predictive analytics market we continue to see growing interest across the organization,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. “However, advanced and predictive analytics use still remains the domain of experts — such as data scientists. As organizations become educated in its benefits and as tools become more approachable, this will likely change in favor of broader deployment.”

“What the survey represents is the state and trajectory of analytics among those who are already producing business intelligence in their organizations and will likely gravitate to more complex modeling through training, 3rd party packages, and more useful tools,” said Neil Raden.

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market.
