Non-functional testing as the key to success: The Software-QS-Tag 2015 provided knowhow, practical examples and trends

Too late planned, a lack of expertise, underestimated risks: The reasons for negligently sparing non-functional testing in software development projects are often the same. However, Yaron Tsubery’s opening keynote „The Importance of Non-Functional Requirements for IT-Systems“ made clear: It is often precisely the non-functional features that determine the success.
The Software-QS-Tag 2015 highlighted non-functional testing and its different facets intensively. Among others, there were tracks about „Load & Performance“, „Usability“ and „Safety, Security & Reliability“. The panel discussion on the second conference day issued how to implement non-functional testing successfully. First steps were discussed from the perspectives of the testers, managers and users.
“In order to develop convincing software, functional testing and non-functional testing must go hand in hand – especially when it comes to testing mobile or cloud-based applications”, emphasized Tilo Linz, chairman of the Software-QS-Tag programme committee.

The Software-QS-Tag continues online

The Software-QS-Tag app was introduced at this year’s conference. The web application is exclusively available for registered participants and it provided all lecture slides already during the conference. What is more, the participants could use the app for networking with the other visitors, speakers and exhibitors. Also after the Software-QS-Tag 2015, it is worthwhile for all participants to keep an eye on the app. Videos of several lectures are available there by the end of next week.
imbus’ social media channels are the right choice for anyone, who wants to continue the technical exchange about non-functional testing. On Twitter, speakers, participants and exhibitors have already intensely discussed during the conference using #qstag. The discourse is still in full swing.
Another central pivotal point is the group “Software-QS-Tag” on XING. The community is an exclusive platform for the participants and speakers of this year’s conference and of those of the years before. Any questions or comments on a particular lecture, workshop or tutorial? The speakers are glad to answer them.
By the way, the interactive topic collection for the key issue of the Software-QS-Tag 2016 has already begun in the group. Members can post their ideas in the panel “Call for Papers” till Sunday, 22nd November 2015. After that, the community votes on the propositions and they are technically assessed by the programme committee. The official conference theme will be proclaimed at the beginning of 2016.
