Baidu Mobile Apps Partner With WWF to Shine a Light on Earth Hour 2016

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 03/11/16 — In the lead-up to Earth Hour — Saturday, March 19th 2016 8:30 p.m. local time — three international apps from the leading Chinese language Internet search provider Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU) will launch a week-long social media campaign to inspire millions of users to support WWF–s global movement and shine a light on climate action through a fun online game.

WWF–s Earth Hour is the world–s largest grassroots movement for the environment. Spanning over 170 countries and territories, the movement mobilizes organizations, governments and millions of individuals to take tangible climate action and build a sustainable future for our planet and future generations. Every year, homes, offices and landmarks in over 7,000 cities mark their commitment to the cause by switching off non-essential lights for one hour during the global lights out event. As the lights dim, people and communities come together to shine a light on the climate action our planet urgently needs and the role individuals can play in changing climate change.

This year, DU Group, a mobile product team of Baidu, will release an interactive game called “Light Up the Night” one week prior to Earth Hour, on March 12th, 2016. Hundreds of millions of DU Battery Saver, DU Speed Booster and ES File Explorer users worldwide will be encouraged to play “Light Up the Night” and virtually switch off the lights of the world–s most iconic landmarks to show their commitment to climate action.

“Climate change is one of today–s most pressing issues,” said Tang Cailin, product director of DU Group. “Together with WWF, we–re reaching out to hundreds of millions of people to let their voices be heard and to encourage them to be a part of global efforts to change climate change.”

During Earth Hour, DU Battery Saver, DU Speed Booster and ES File Explorer users will also be encouraged to share pictures of the night sky with friends to spread the word on climate change through social networks and empower like-minded individuals to join the movement–s efforts to change climate change.

This is the third year in a row that DU Group has supported WWF–s Earth Hour campaign. 2016 also marks the tenth lights out for Earth Hour, which started in Sydney, Australia in 2007.
