Novartis wins 1st place at the SAMS Europe Award 2017 with “Cloud SAM for Salesforce”

License Control for Salesforce from Aspera enables cloud cost optimization.

Aachen/Berlin, Germany, September 26, 2017 – Last night in Berlin, Novartis, the Swiss pharmaceutical group and a client of Aspera, was awarded 1st place in the “Tool/Software” category for developing an innovative license-management solution for optimizing Salesforce licenses. Novartis AG is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, with around $49 billion in sales in 2016.

The goal of the “Cloud SAM for Salesforce” project was developing a technical solution together with its partner Aspera that would provide online transparency of licenses and usage in the Salesforce platform.

“On-premise data is always available, but it–s not so easy with cloud data,” says Jochen Hagenlocher, SAM Lead at Novartis. “Figures in the millions are often –not visible–, because license and usage data are not made available online and consolidated. New technical concepts are urgently needed to create the necessary transparency for cloud cost optimization. We are very pleased to have contributed to a new and innovative concept.”

“We congratulate our client Novartis, rightly acknowledged as a constant source of ideas for the SAM industry,” says Olaf Diehl, Managing Director of Aspera GmbH in Berlin. “Aspera has taken on Novartis– technical needs and developed them into a market-ready product. License Control for Salesforce radically transforms cloud cost management.”

License Control for Salesforce is based on Aspera–s standard technology and is the first and most comprehensive solution for delivering real-time reports, providing an automated overview of orgs, usage, cost, and savings potential in Salesforce. Aspera currently has the highest demand for this solution in the DACH region and the US.

“Cloud providers are forcing companies to create an interface across point-to-point connections for each provider,” says Matthias Vianden, Aspera–s Head of Solutions Development. “It can then take weeks before data can be collected manually or by other means and made available centrally, and the data changes every day. In an advanced environment such as the cloud, this is not up-to-date—savings potential is likewise not constantly identified.”

Every year, the we.CONECT Group awards the SAMS Europe Award for outstanding achievements in the company-wide implementation of software asset and license-management strategies. The award winners were again selected this year by a live vote. In addition to the title and trophy, we.CONECT donates 1,000 on behalf of the winner to a charity project.
