Forging Public and Private Collaboration to Boost Indonesia–s Digital Economy

Communic and Broadcast Indonesia wrap up successful second edition

JAKARTA, Indonesia: Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Technology has hailed the second edition of Communic Indonesia and Broadcast Indonesia as an important event towards driving greater participation and synergy between the Government and private enterprises to encourage further digital innovation in the country.

Speaking at the event, H.E. Rudiantara, Minister of Communication and Technology, reiterated the Indonesian Government’s commitment to developing the telecoms and broadcasting sectors.

He cited stepped-up efforts to improve the country’s place on the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) ICT Development Index, by connecting the country–s challenging geography of more than 17,000 islands through the establishment of the Palapa Ring Satellite project providing high-speed broadband internet to the whole Indonesian archipelago.

He also added that the Communication and Information Ministry, along with members of the House of Representatives, are now working to complete the Broadcasting Law to facilitate the transition from analog to digital TV.

“Digitalising all aspects of the communications industry is essential to ensure that Indonesian businesses can work effectively, productively and competitively on a global scale. The Indonesian government lauds this international exhibition, as well as the digital economy seminar, hosted by Mastel along with its partners,” said Rudiantara in his opening address.

More than 4,200 visitors and 204 companies from 27 countries and regions, descended upon the Jakarta International Expo for the three-day event – organized by PT. Pamerindo Indonesia.

The exhibition showcase and conference topics centered around the growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing and artificial intelligence, the role of satellite connectivity, the need for cybersecurity, data management and privacy, as well as the future of television, and broadcasting technologies.

“We have had positive feedback from attendees of the exhibition and the conference sessions. The enthusiastic participation of local business communities, industry associations, and government agencies is a testament to Indonesia’s readiness and commitment to building digital capabilities,” said Ben Wong, President Director of PT Pamerindo. “The response this year has proved that there is great appetite for events such as this in the region. We are therefore proud to announce the launch of NXT Indonesia 2018 – a showcase of emerging technologies and disruptive innovations, that will help create a smarter and more connected Indonesia.”

Communic Indonesia, NXT Indonesia and Broadcast Indonesia 2018 will take place from 24 – 26 October 2018.
