15th Z-Wave Alliance Unplug Fest and Developer Forum in Copenhagen

The Z-Wave Alliance regularly organises developer forums and Unplug Fests for its members. For the alliance, such events act as important platforms for exchanging knowledge and developing new ideas for home control applications. Furthermore, experts can also test the Z-Wave interoperability of new devices at these events. The alliance’s portfolio now includes nearly 350 products for the wireless-based networking of green energy, entertainment, security, HVAC, lighting, comfort and locking systems etc. At this year’s event, alliance members such as Danfoss, Kamstrup, Horstmann, SIEGENIA-AUBI and Simply Media presented the audience of experts with a wide selection of innovative home control solutions – ranging from energy-efficient smart meters to intelligent door and window openers.

Danfoss: Ventilation system with heat recovery
The Danish manufacturer presented Danfoss Air, a ventilation system which optimally combines both ventilation and heat recovery. The result is a very effective ventilation system which creates a healthy indoor environment offering maximum comfort and adherence to environmental standards. The system can easily be integrated into a home control network by means of Z-Wave.

“Greener” smart meter from Kamstrup A/S
Kamstrup has launched a new generation of consumption metering modules with the slogan “The Green Difference.” The Z-Wave compatibility of these means that property owners and tenants can transparently view and check their consumption data at any time. Intelligent home control applications can in this way be run from one and the same electricity meter.

Horstmann provides high levels of transparency for consumers
Together with the Kamstrup meter, the home energy monitor from Horstmann was also put through its paces at the Unplug Fest. By combining the Horstmann electricity, gas and water meters and the associated energy consumption display, consumers can obtain a comprehensive overview of consumption data at intervals such as every half an hour, every day or every month. The home energy monitor collects data via Z-Wave mesh networking technology and can thereby be integrated into an existing home control network.

SIEGENIA-AUBI develops an intelligent door and window sensor
The globally active expert in the field of fittings, ventilation and building services technology presented, alongside its intelligent ventilation system, a newly developed wireless window and door sensor based on Z-Wave technology. This can be built into the frame of a window or door and informs the user, by sending a message to the mobile control unit, if doors or windows are open.

3View from Simply Media TV enables home automation via television
Z-Wave technology forms the basis for the new set top box from Simply Media TV. A controller here allows everything in the home to be regulated as 3View is the first set top box to make use of the Z-Wave standard. All compatible devices and applications (e.g. lighting, heating etc.) in the home control network can be controlled remotely via the system and monitored via a display on the television screen.

The Danish Kesoni Group acted as the host for the 2009 Unplug Fest. Milcom, a subsidiary of the group, recently joined the Z-Wave Alliance. Milcom assists members of the alliance with the planning, development, production and sales and distribution of home control products, as well as designing associated marketing strategies if required.
