Beyond the Ski Slopes and Catered Chalet, La Plagne Has Much to Offer

Deciding on a resort for your next holiday in one of the many luxury catered chalets? La Plagne is, of course, world-renowned for its high-altitude skiing and along with neighbouring Les Arcs, it forms part of the Paradiski area, with over 425km of piste. Yet, for the true luxury traveller, La Plagne offers so much more than skiing, offering a vibrant range of activities that match, if not exceed, more popular favourites like Cortina or Gstaad.

In this article, we will share our selection of some of the most unique and exclusive activities to try out in La Plagne.

Want to experience the slopes from a new perspective? How about from 40 metres above the ground and at high speed? La Plagneâ€?s ‘cascadeâ€? zip wire, running between Belle Plagne and Bellecôte includes 9 wires and even a 9 metre jump. For a true adrenaline rush, try the Super Tyro zipline, which whisks you down a 600-metre line at speeds of up to 90km/h with stunning views of Mont Blanc.

Ever wanted to combine the glamour of equestrian sports and the ski slope? You can try the traditional Norwegian sport of skikjøring or ski driving. Imagine being pulled behind a horse on skis, like a snow-based form of jet skiing! At La Plagne, you can go on longer skijoring expeditions or, after learning the ropes, compete in high-speed races.

Olympic Bobsledding

Olympic medallist and world champion Bruno Mingeon offers private bobsledding experiences. He will steer you down the 1,500m course built for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics at speeds of up to 130km. This isnt for the fainthearted, but you will be in expert hands with Bruno at the wheel.

Need to relax after an intense days skiing? The village has first-rate spa and wellness facilities to help you truly unwind and be fresh to hit those slopes again. The Deep Nature Spa has Nordic baths, a salt grotto, counter-current swimming lane and many private healing rooms. There are, of course, saunas in many of the resorts catered chalets. La Plagne clearly ticks both the relaxation and adrenalin boxes.

This is one of the most futuristic and surreal experiences to try at La Plagne. You can explore the resort on a snow e-bike, an electric bicycle with caterpillar tracks, allowing it to cruise at exciting speeds through the snow. Trying this at dusk, with the falling snow illuminated by your headlights is a special experience.

Night racing

This is easily our personal favourite. After the slopes close at night, you can race Superluge sleds down a 5km course by the light of helmet-mounted torches. Once you reach the finish of this exhilarating 90-minute descent, you will be welcomed by staff with steaming mulled wine and hot chocolate. It is truly a unique experience.

There is just so much to do here that you will be returning thoroughly fulfilled and satisfyingly tired to your catered chalets. La Plagnes chalets are indeed the perfect place to retreat to in the lap of luxury after adrenaline-packed days on or off the slopes.
