Volcano experts discover lithium deposit

Between Nevada and Oregon, volcanologists have found a massive lithium deposit.

Presumably, the eruption of a volcano about 16 million years ago was responsible for the formation of a considerable lithium deposit. And on top of that, the lithium is highly concentrated and is found in shallow deposits. Estimates put the amount of lithium at up to 120 million tons, which is a lot and could supply several billion electric cars. For the industries that urgently need lithium for their lithium-ion batteries, this would be a nice thing. Because mostly the lithium comes from politically not so easy regions. The prices for lithium have risen extremely in recent years. And the demand for lithium continues to grow enormously. China is still number one when it comes to the extraction and also the refining of lithium. For the USA, in any case, it would be extremely gratifying to have its own lithium deposit. Lithium, the white gold, is indispensable for the mobility revolution.

So now hope rests on the sinkhole, the McDermitt Caldera, where the lithium was discovered. Large amounts of lava created a large cavity. Minerals entered the caldera with the magma, as well as water from the mountains, which also contains minerals. After the water evaporated, layers of sediment lay in the caldera, which is located in the desert. Only time will tell whether the lithium find actually exceeds the quantity of lithium found in South America on the Bolivian Andes Plateau. Lithium exists today for example in Argentina in the projects of Alpha Lithium or at US Critical Metals.

In Argentina, Alpha Lithium – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/alpha-lithium-corp/ – is working on the development of very promising lithium projects. Especially the 100 percent owned Tollilar project shines.

In Nevada (Clayton Valley and McDermitt Caldera), Idaho and Montana, US Critical Metals – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/us-critical-metals-corp/ – is taking care of its projects. These contain lithium, rare earths and cobalt.
