MSC Announces New Qseven Platform Family Based on Intel Atom E6x0 CPU

SAN BRUNO, CA — (Marketwire) — 11/29/11 — MSC Embedded Inc., manufacturer of highly integrated standard board level products and customer specific boards and systems, today announced a new family of platform modules that integrate the Intel® Atom E6x0 processor. The Qseven MSC Q7-TCTC-FD family of compact modules offers high graphics performance and a CAN bus, and is available in 70 x 70mm form factor for the extended temperature range of -40 to +85°C, making it an ideal solution for industrial applications in rough environments.

The Qseven platform MSC Q7-TCTC-FD is offered in four different computing performance variants. The most economic model integrates a 600 MHz Intel Atom E620 CPU. Alternative modules are based on the E640 (1.0GHz) processor, the 1.3GHz E660 or the most powerful E680 CPU with 1.6GHz. The E6x0 processors are produced in a 45-nm high K process and support Hyper Threading and Intel-s Virtualisation technology. Memory controller (single channel, 32 Bit) and the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator GMA 600 are part of the processor. The 2D/3D graphics engine runs at 400MHz and utilizes up to 384 MB of video memory (UMA). The GMA 600 offers a hardware acceleration engine supporting video playback in HD quality MPEG2 and MPEG4 decoding and encoding.

The Intel platform controller hub EG20 PCH is connected to the Intel Atom E6x0 processor via one of four PCI-Express lanes. The Qseven board contains up to 1GB DDR2-533 SDRAM.

A variety of different displays can be connected via LVDS (18/24 Bit) with a maximal resolution of 1280×768 and via SVDO with 1920×1080 pixels. In the dual independent display mode two displays can be driven simultaneously. The computer-on-modules MSC Q7-TCTC-FD offer a CAN bus, six USB 2.0 host ports and one USB 2.0 client, three PCI Express x1 lanes, LPC, high definition audio and a GBit Ethernet interface. An optional 4 or 8GB flash drive connected via aSATA II interface is available as a system boot device. Cost-effective and robust SD card mass storage devices can be plugged in via the SDIO interface.

The MSC Qseven platform integrates innovative hardware and BIOS based security functionality compliant to the requirements of the Trusted Computing Group (TCG).

Due to the processor-s low thermal design power (TDP) of 2.7 – 3.9W and the integrated ACPI 3.0 power management function, the MSC Q7-TCTC-FD platform is also highly suitable for mobile applications.

Samples of select models are available now with mass production in January 2012. The pricing starts at $119.00 in high volume quantities.
