SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwire) — 12/15/11 — Open source web server developer NGINX has been shortlisted in the inaugural 2012 Program in the category Developer of the Year.

The Cloud Awards recognize and celebrate industry leaders and pioneers in the field of cloud computing. NGINX was selected as one of the few finalists from over 160 applicants across the following categories: B2B Customer Strategy, Best Cloud Infrastructure, Data Innovation of the Year, Developer of the Year, Most Promising Start-Up, Best Platform as a Service, Security Innovation, Best Software as a Service and Web Services Excellence.

The program is open internationally across the U.S. and EMEA regions and accepts entries from organizations of any size. Judges include business leaders from the U.S. and U.K.

“Being shortlisted in the Developer of the Year category of the 2012 Cloud Awards program is an honour and a recognition everyone at NGINX is very proud of,” said Igor Sysoev, Principal Architect and CTO. “It underscores the momentum NGINX has been achieving as the next generation web server, and the level of appreciation we have experienced from the market.”

“We have seen a remarkable calibre of organizations enter the program and the Cloud Awards team is truly honored to judge them,” said Cloud Awards organizer Larry Johnson. “Cloud computing has faced off many detractors as it emerges into the mainstream. Some commentators have expressed concerns over what cloud computing has to offer. But the organizations which have taken part in the 2012 Cloud Awards program demonstrate exactly what cloud computing can do for the industry.

“We-ve seen world-leading organizations spring up literally overnight to offer faster, more capable and cost-effective solutions than previously imagined. We-ve seen markets become so disrupted they-re unrecognizable. And we-ve seen all of this when the cloud computing industry is still in its infancy. We can-t wait to see what we get in our in-trays in 2012 and 2013, let alone 2025.”

The full 2012 shortlist can be found . Final winners will be announced on Tuesday 10 January, 2012. The Cloud Awards () will return in 2012-13 for a fresh program seeking notable excellence in the field of cloud computing.

From its earliest inception, NGINX has been driven by an understanding that Internet usage would explode with an increasing expectation of instant response from online services. NGINX was designed to enable companies to adjust to this new reality of heavy Internet consumption without incurring unnecessary costs in capital investments or time. In almost 10 years of its history NGINX has developed into a flexible and scalable Internet infrastructure software, which includes a web server for static and dynamic content, Layer 7 load-balancing, reverse proxy for HTTP, SMTP, IMAP and POP3, caching engine and SSL offloading.

NGINX has grown organically over the past 10 years of development thanks to the vision of Igor Sysoev and the enthusiasm and support of a loyal community of users and developers. In July 2011, the company founded its commercial arm, Nginx, Inc. For more information, please visit .
