Crowd testing: Intended users scrutinize apps and websites

The process is uncomplicated and flexible: The test tasks are transferred to a group of Internet users. This crowd is always composed in such a manner that it reflects the product’s target group in a representative way – e.g. concerning the age band or the professional background. The selected testers provide with their feedback the basis for the evaluation and compilation of the test result by the test manager. The client receives a defect and usability report and instructions for handling.

During the entire process the test manager stays as reference person in contact with the client. He is responsible for the monitoring and thus ensures the quality of the test result. Test reports, screenshots and videos make the result for the client transparent and comprehensible.

With the crowd based method, tests can be performed on smartphones, tablet-PCs and desktops with all relevant operating systems (from IOS, Android and Windows Phone via Mac OS and Linux through to Windows 8) and on all current browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari). The script or the use cases to be tested are coordinated with the client before the start of the test. The test cycles are scalable; they fit exactly and can start within 24 hours.

Crowd testing cannot replace professional testing methods and the developer’s internal QA – however, it offers an ideal supplementation to those methods. Especially in cases where you need fast feedback from the intended user group. Crowd testing services are useful for prototype and usability checks, benchmarking with competing applications and for acceptance testing.
